Tail light issues
Tail light issues
Okay, so here goes my best at trying to explain my problem.
I have an 04 EVO with some sort of electrical problem with the tail lights. The problem started after I installed a new starter because that went bad. A couple days after the starter was in, I kept blowing the passenger side tail light fuse. After going through a couple 7.5 AMP fuses, a mechanic said try putting a 10 AMP and see if it blows. The 10 AMP held up, but I think lead to the execution of my illumination wire behind my radio. After the illumination wire was fried, the tail lights wouldn't go off. I replaced the illumination wire and switched back to the 7.5 fuse....tail lights still wouldn't shut off, even while the car is off.
So after fooling around to figure out what's going on, I pulled both tail light fuses. The passenger tail light and every other light on the circuit(running lights, climate control) stays on EVEN WITH THE FUSE PULLED.
I've disconnected my battery and the car has been sitting. After reconnecting the battery everything was back to normal for a couple days then the tail lights were staying on again.
Currently I just reconnected the battery again and everything seems to be fine but my SRS light is on now with a CEL. I haven't had time to scan it but I'm thinking this is leading to something with my wiring harness after doing some research.
Any suggestions and input is greatly appreciated, I'm a rookie with electrical stuff.
I'm checking the harness plugs on the driver's side when I get home and I'll report back.

All three tail lights being on? It should be a 15A fuse to the brake switch(which is probably your problem) to your tail lights. I have a shop manual on CD. On your brake pedal there is a switch, it sounds like you may need to replace that.
