I would check it out for sure. 10k if the thing is in good shape, you still have 10 more you could put into it if you wanted to.

The inside looks remarkably clean for what it must have been through over nearly 150K.

With 10k to throw at it, why not. I'd check the the frame and the electrical systems and anything else that won't be getting replaced to make sure there all in acceptable condition. Start pricing out the essentials first: motor, turbo, coolant system, suspension, brakes ect. If it's within your budget why not do it? it'd be an awesome and very satisfying project.

Seems like you could just pay 5-7k more to get a car with about half the mileage.

get it. rebuild for a 2.3L, upgrade the turbo and various parts, and then upgrade/rebuild the t-case. that should be in your budget of $20k. you could also part out your old crap and make enough money for the first week of gas.

yea that car with a shep or comparable tranny, new clutch, built t-case, and something like a bushur built 2.0 with a nice turbo! it would be a beast. also you could sell all the stock parts you are taking off.

If I was looking for a $10K platform to start with this would be it IF the engine goes rebuild the bottom end and throw a turbo at it. But, I would be prepared to start replacing parts in the near future.

PASS IT!!!

You could easily put 10k in the engine, tcase, and transmission and still have issues after. It could end up being a gigantic headache. I bought mine with 50k and I still had a lot of issues. I got a good deal at 18k but the following week put 4k into it.

Sorry to hear bro but it's a crapshoot even with a new one. You never know with any piece of mechanical equipment. I do admit that 147K is extreme but you never know. Does the OP know the history of the car. Even to start from scratch and build a monster, 10K is a godsend for an Evo. If the OP is going to DD the car then no.

Decisions...decisions....The saying goes "you get what you pay for" is relevent when it comes to this stuff...If it where my money i would fid a 16k or 17k car...with less miles and put 2 or 3 grand into that car...all wheel drive has alot of parts to wear out and with that many miles on her...$$$$ But thats just my 2 cents
