The 03 EVO comes stock with HID's and fogs as they didnt introduce the SSL till 04and the 05 MR's also had an aluminum roof if I am not mistaken.
The IX has blacked out tails and the headlights are black with ambers on the parking lights.
The JDM MR headlights have amber on the turn signals.
The IX's and 05 VIII's have a 10.5 "hot side" while the 03-04 has a 9.8 but still 16G turbo, can easily pick up a 10.5 turbo and slap it on for cheap with no other mods.

In the end you will be happy with the purchase of any EVO.....

Id go with a 05 evo viii...the MRs have a weaker tranny being 6speed and are not ideal for dragging if thats what you wanna do..they cost more and are a little heavier..they're all pretty sick tho but IMO 05 viii's are raw

Try snagging an EVO IX SE.

You get almost all the goodies from the MR (Aluminum Roof, HIDS, BBS Wheels) except it has the stronger 5 speed (and you'll get better gas mileage with the 5 speed also).

I will pick Evo8 as MR had a bigger problem on transmittion than the Evo 9 if you like to drive fast

Basically it goes like this: if you are going to buy an 8, get a 2005. If you can afford a 9, go for it. MR 6speed means you have a weaker tranny. If you plan to go out and make big power (450+), then the 6speed becomes a point of failure.

IMHO, 2005 Evo8 SSL is the best of all worlds, but maybe that's just because I have one
i defnt. agree with the tranny deal for the mr because i went to tre a really good transmission shop that told me that the mr trans. is already basically maxed out

I would REALLY love to know where you got this misinformation? I love these forums because someone posts about the MR having a weaker transmission and everyone believe it off the bat. It's how you drive it. If your an idiot, your going to break it.

Funny fact, I've heard of more people breaking their 5 speeds because they think they are so bullet proof that they wail on them all the time.

Stop spreading bull****. And the MR gets better gas milage, 4th and 5th are slightly shorter but 6th is longer and made for cruising. IIRC when I'm cruising at 80 in vacume my RPMS are still only around 2600 I think, I'll check today/tomorrow.

depends on if its going to be a daily driver... if yes then the mr with 6th gear is cool, but if you plan for a track car, i like 5 speeds
