Post Here goes nothin'

Hello, I have been lurking around the site for a couple of weeks now trying to learn as much as I can before posting if this is the wrong folder to post this in I apologize I didnt see a Newbie folder. I joined because a local dealer has an Evo VIII that I am interested in buying that I wanted to get an expert opinion on. I have looked through the car and can see that the person that had it before put a lot of time and money into it. What I can see is full turbo back exhaust, Intake, Aftermarket intercooler piping and intercooler,Apexi AVCR & ASM GP, AEM Boost & AFR gauges,HKS SSQV Blowoff Valve vented to the atmosphere.
car has around 56K and the dealer wants $16,000 for it. quick question: the car was running a little rough when we first started it up and drove it, could it be because the BOV is vented and not recirc.? The car pulled really well and ran smooth but at idle was a bit rough. I am having the salesman call the previous owner to find out if the car has had an ecu flash or where it was tuned.
Heres the link for the car, it says $23,000 but since the car has been on their lot so long they have dropped the price to around $16000.

Thanks for all your help!

Thats a pretty sweet FMIC shield... shielding it from rocks, bugs... and cold air!

Take it to a reputable local shop and have them give it the twice over.

If its running rough at idle the previous owner might have installed new cams. This would give the car a 'loopy' idle and it will sound like the car RPM's go up and down. You should consider buying an AFC / re-flash to help with the idle. It probably just needs some more fuel at the idle RPM's.

Also - you might want to look into buying a recirculation kit for the SSQV. Lancershop.com sells one - http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...?productid=197
By not recirculating it will mess with the MAF and the ECU will think it has a certain amount of air when it actually doesn't.

16K is a good deal.

Good luck!

First of all, there is a newbie section on this site. Secondly, the car looks pretty good. Your bad idle is most likely from that BOV. Our cars don't do well venting directly to the atmosphere.

would that rough idle be caused by the bov if its not even venting at idle? my car has a rough idle. pretty sure it has something to do with the intake thats on it and it hasnt been tuned yet. i'm waiting for the cams. overall that looks like a pretty good deal. i bought my 03 for 15.7 and it was basically stock with 74k on it

def get rid of the bov. Venting to the atmosphere is never a good idea on stock ecu. As for the idle it definately could be due to cams. Its also possible that the car had other mods and was tuned for them, and then upon the sale of the car got rid of some things. You need to talk to the previous owner/tuner and find out exactly what was done to the car.

Yeah first thing on the list for this car (if I get it) is Tune and recirc kit for BOV.

Like everyone said, take it to a good shop and have them do a complete inspection on it. Get a CarFax report. Get rid of that BOV and get a IX DV and a tune if all turns out well and you have yourself a good deal.
