Weight Reduction.

What is this going to yield at the track? What will a 200lb lighter EVO do over an EVO that has simply upped boost, or changed ECU or even exhaust?
I can see the spare removal (keep a can of fix flat around), but everything else on this car is a bit silly unless you're gonna be a trailer queen.
Those are my heavy opinions =)

at the track... they usually say... 100 pounds is a second. that's nothin' to sneeze at.

i acutally have a thread somewehre old and it has a lotta weights on stuff.
carbon fiber fenders are available.... and so are aluminum roofs.
actually if you want a comprehensive list of the lightest full trim street car you can get. here it is (these are all conservative estimates and i'll cite some examples).
two race buckets will actually only prolly save you 5-10 pounds each, the stock seats are pretty darn light unfortunately. (fiberglass seats from sparco with aluminum side mounts and seat base from rmr) cf will obviously save you lots more, up to 15 pounds per seat.
two cf f1 style mirrors will save you maybe 1 pound or 2 for the pair.
a cf hood can save you 7 pounds if you get a nice one (all american racing or cwest cf).
cf trunk can save you 11 pounds (all american racing or cwest cf)
with wings you are just trading.
a ti catback will save you 30 pounds (bushcur claimed a savings of 26 pounds for his exhaust and the ti systems are about 6 or so pounds lighter than his) (greddy ti is prolly teh lightest of the bunch, maybe amuse, but i hear it's a pound heavier)
removing your seatbelt and trading for a harness is about equal (for a lightweight harness) (latest sparco competition)
taking out the spare has already been discussed to remove 40 or so pounds
removing the trunk interior barely saves you 10
getting the lightest wheel possible that is a decent size for the evo (gramlight 57f 17x8.5) will give you about 10 pounds per wheel.
getting the stoptech front kit will save you almost 13 pounds a piece total of 26 in front
replacing your rear rotors with two pieces that are available can save you a total of about 12
replacing your suspension with coilovers usually saves you some (someone fill in a number)
removing your front strut bar and replacing with a ti unit will save you about 10.
replacing your battery with a mini unit will get save you about 30 (the trays are lighter and you remove a lotta hardware)
replacing your stock air box with an hks unit will save you more than 5 pounds.
replacing your front bumper with a jdm style bumper that removes the crash beam will get you 20-30 pounds depending on how heavy of a bumper you get.
for the rear i believe 10-20 is just as fair.
replacing your lug nuts with aluminum ones from volk can save you up to 2 pounds per wheel totally 8 pounds.
tires are most likely a negative adding weight.
replacing the steel tie bars with aluminum units is most likely a trade.
taking out your roof and puttin in an mr unit will save you 15 pounds if you had a normal steel roof and up to 65 pounds if you had a sunroof.
carbon fiber fenders will prolly save you 15 pounds total.
intercooler piping can save you 2 pounds for lower and upper (replacing with aluminum)
replacing the cast header with a ebay mani will prolly save you 15 or more pounds.
all this talk is without draining any fluids... without taking any interior out, without compromising anything.

I don't think you're going to save 45 pounds putting in racing shells. I posted this in another thread:
----
The OEM driver's seat, with all bracketry and the seat belt receiver weighs in at 37.4 lbs. I weighed this on a digital shipping scale, so it should be pretty accurate.
Lighter than I thought the whole assembly would be.
I also weighed a Sparco Evo racing shell with aluminum side mounts and Evo base, which is 25.6 lbs.
----
So you're looking at more like 24lbs putting in racing shells.
This is a fiberglass seat. Obviously you could save some extra weight going with carbon/kevlar, but $4000 for a pair of seats seems a little steep to me for the weight savings you get.

if your building a track car, you can pull the radio and speakers, just bring your ipod with u and put the ear pieces under your helmet.....also those lightweight windows help too, not sure if this stuff was mentioned or not...

I just swapped mine out for Stoptech rotors, and the Stoptechs "felt" about 2 to 3 pounds lighter each...
you can also take your backseat out, that'll save a lot of weight.
