evo ix mr not good for modding?
I have a 6 spd and never have any problem..... I see guys with 5 spd getting their rebuilt and all. It depends on what you do to your car... if you abuse it it will break.
The 6 spd is as good as the 5spd on the 1/4 drag racings but if you plan to do long road course and auto-crossing you might want to get the 5 spd because it's proving to held longer than the 6 spd..... but not by much.... people usually have their tranny rebuilt when they are deep into racing because one would not want to fail when trying to win at their best.

i had the evo 8 5 speed and now have the evo ix mr 6 spd and i have to say the 6 spd is way better thats just me but i dont beat on my car another thing is if you want to send it to TRE and ask for a six spd rebuilt its cheap and safe and stronger..http://www.teamrip.com/Evolution.html
hey on another note remember the benefit of the mr i least i think they were better. light roof, bilstein, bbs wheels, and at least mine came with se lip,red stiching etc. just a suggestion..when you got an mr you have the top notch car i believe just my opinion..but check the website i link you to. really the best option for a 6 speed and a trans cooler
sometimes people are just stupid and you shouldnt listen to what they say. Ive heard crap from people like "subarus and evos use the same motor as srt4s."
you can do whatever you weant to that car. The transmission can overheat during intense road racing but thats a rare occurence, and a very good few friends of mine go to motorsport ranch at least once a month and have had no problems with their 6 speed MR's.
your best bet is to find somebody that has evospecific knowledge(ie: DavidBuschur) and let him guide you on what to do. Even people on this forum will say things that are way off or just plain horrible advice.

I'm just about to roll over 70,000 miles on my IX MR 6-speed tranny, putting down some VERY adequate power (as seen in my sig below), and I've had absolutely ZERO problems with the tranny. And I'm not exactly nice to my car. It absorbs a TON of frustration. I go through tires crazy fast, too --- so you can tell I put it through the paces. If you look at all the anti-6-speed threads, you will seriously only come across 3 or 4 true complaints, and the rest are all, "yeah, man, that's a weak tranny," BS.
Just learn to respect your machine, that's all. She'll hold.

Alright, I was with Robert from Robispec these 2 days getting my suspension package done, and he told me that they can't keep the 6 speed alive on the track. My 05 MR tranny is holding fine, but I've never been to any track event, now with my new suspension setup I'd like to bring my evo to the track, I'll do the best I can to keep it last on the track.

The only reason i can think that someone would say that is the fact that you're paying extra for the MR parts in which you're going to swap out anyway. For example, it comes with upgraded wheels, suspension, and gauge package....all in which you're going to change. IMO if youre going to change all those parts just go with the GSR unless you HAVE to have 6 spd, or if you want the "bragging rights" to saying you have an aluminum roof.
there has been only 3 orso 6spd problems that has been a defect that i know of...
i know more 5spd people's tranny get broken.
its all up to the owner and how they take care of it.
i mod mine and i have no problems.
its the same car but with different tranny. the 6spd offers better gearing for the track (road course) 5spd is better suited for track (straight)
i have close to 80k on mine and no problems.
i has all bolt ons except for bigger turbo.
if i had to choose another evo 9 id still go with the MR.

420-430is whp right here with no issues besides some air in my clutch line that I have been gradually getting out. (Just changed my brakes recently.)
