Under tray... to keep or not to keep?

I was just wondering how many people have gotten fed up with having to remove and reinstall the undertray everytime you want to work on the car that you have removed it.

I think I am finally to that point were I am just going to leave it off. Any down sides to doing so?

Thanks!

There are a few: You will have more nose lift at high speed and there is more chance for unwanted dirt and debris in the underside of your engine. Yes the undertray is a horrible pain, which is why I will be getting an APR lip/ undertray this winter to replace it. There are only a few actual bolts that hold the APR piece up as opposed to 50 of those snap screws.

I got rid of mine already, I was so tired of all the plastic snap screw every two inches... That is a good idea to get an aftermarket undertray which should have a lot less screws...I think I am going to look into that, good idea proto....

I just got my Evo a few weeks ago... I looked under the car and didn't really see anything. IS the undertray supposed to cover about everything underneath it? I didn't see anything with a quick glance. I was actually looking to see if the exhaust was stock for sure with a cat.

Reasons to keep the undertray:

Better aerodynamics (reduced drag)
Better air flow through FMIC and radiator
Reduced lift at speed
Improved cooling for transmission and brakes
Helps keep engine bay clean

If you hate the stock tray get the Beatrush which is a really nice piece. If even that annoys you, use Dzus fasteners on it for quick and simple removal/reinstallation.

I used to be a firm believer in the undertray. That was until I got tired of removing and reinstalling that thing every time I would add another part. It wasn't so much the undertray but those damn fasteners that would never come off like their supposed to.

^ not unlike chemwarrior, I used to put mine back on everytime. After rebuilding my engine I shocked my buddy Thomas and cut it in half and threw it away! He almost fell over in shock. (Yeah I'm that **** about my car).

I replaced mine with an APR splitter. May not have brake duct guides, but did those did much anyway? Removing the bumper is work on the front of the car is easy with the splitter. 8 bolts and 5 minutes of your time. Maybe some extra hands and it's off. Much easier than having the stock tray there.

If you are worried about brake cooling (which is incredible insufficient stock) get a ducting kit like AMS's, Hot Lap Motorsports, or Forge
