Shift Light Help

I wanted to know what kind of shift light everyone is using. I will be installing one and I want to get one that is easy to install and not that expensive. Pictures would really help, I would also like to know web pages that sell the ones you have. I have searched online already before anyone ask, I would just like to know what EVO owners here use.

why do you even need to look at the RPM's... You should know when to shift because of sound from engine. there's no need to look at that.

I myself dont need it and yes I know when to shift by the sound she makes. I have a G/F that would like to get in the EVO world, so I figured it would be easier for her if she had a shift light.

You must not drive an evo with power. The more power you have the quicker that rpm needle moves! The point of a shift light isnt to teach you how to drive, it is to allow you to keep your eyes on the road while shifting at peak power. You bounce off the rev limiter once, you have lost a lot forward momentum. 1 missed shift can cost you a race.

To the OP -- You want something easy to install, then post up a complete custom install? The easiest install will be right on your steering column. Easy to run wires and easy to see. I use an autometer shift light, its a little bigger than some, but it hasnt let me down. (If it ain't broke, dont fix it )

I dont have install pics, but this is what im using. I changed out the lens to a red one, yellow didnt match anything.

It does both.

When you get into the higher gears it changes from green to yellow/orange to red then there is a shift light that you can pre-set. Mine is set to 6800-900 rpm.

If I have time later, Ill take a video if it for you.

Oh sweet, never knew that. Wouldn't mind seeing that video. I have a gear indicator on my bike, you wouldn't realize how many times you look for a 7th gear.

I've seen a shift light that can be plugged into the 12-volt cigarette lighter and does not need to be wired into the tachometer.

Supposedly it reads the signal from the car's electrical signals and converts it to a equivalent rpm signal which you can program the light with.

Here's an example on eBay:

kellieanne:

He said it best, Im not saying you have a slow a$$ car but it is a clue. Look at what I drive, 04 Cobra and 01 Supercharged Mustang GT. Do you really think that she cant drive. I originally posted she wants to join in on the EVO world, attention to detail people.

I asked for shift light suggestion, not advise on who I should let drive MY car.
