06 MR issues, help plz

I noticed my car being much jerkier then normal (I have an intake w no tune). I wasnt driving the car hard at all because the SES light had came on aswell, I thought maybe the IC pipe was loose or something.

I posted on socal and they told me to check my spark plugs, and what i had them gapped to. I was told they were pregapped for the 9's so i didnt gap them when I put them in. I checked and they were about .022 .0235 .0235 and .024. I got them all up to .024 and put them back in the car. Let the idle learn itself for a couple of minutes then went out for a spin. The car felt much smoother, however, I noticed a sound that I dont remember hearing before. I could be imagining it but I dno.

It sounds sort of like pins are being tapped up against something, coming from the engine. However it isnt very loud at all, you have to pay attention if you want to hear it, and if you want to hear it well, you have to go to open the hood and go to the left side of the engine. I just really dont remember hearing this noise when the car was idling before.

Wanted to see if you guys think its anything?

Ticking at idle it totally normal for an EVO its generally the injectors you can hear the loudest. Get a long screw driver and place the metal end on and injector and your ear on the handle end is this the noise your hearing. If so no worries

As far as the jerkieness. Was your DV/BOV installed back properly (not backwards) as this will cause a great deal of jerking as you surge the hek out of the turbo. The bottom port needs to go to the UICP and the side port to the Intake

Yah the ticking could be lifters too. Lifters just seem to be loud on these 4g63 engines. Don't worry about it.

Lifters or injectors just being their normal, noisy selves. No need to worry

Intake without tune causes the ecu to go kinda crazy in most cases. get it tuned and i'm sure your issue will go away. Or put the stock intake back on and just put a Drop in k&n filter.

Ya I know, A tune is coming soon, I just wanted to put on the parts I have before I got the tune, no point to tune then pay for a retune. Real pointless.

Well im glad you guys think the noise is nothing, def a relief!
About a boost leak, I have ALWAYS felt I might have one. I will check as I get my tune in a week or so.

id say put your stock intake back on... hold on to your parts and install all of them at once, then get tuned... just my .02

i installed my exhaust, intake, bov, ic piping, and mbc all at once... then got tuned the same day...

no need to make your car run like sh*t just to say you have an intake on lol...

Be more specific with your question.

Putting an actual intake on Evo's(not just a cone filter or drop in) is tricky. Some evo's react well to it without a tune and some have horrible idling issues without a tune.

If you put a full intake on yours, get it tuned and save yourself the trouble of figuring out if yours will act up or not.

When I put my intake on without tuning, it ran fine, but seemed significantly slower than the stock intake. Put the stock intake back on and all was good until tuned.

an intake with no tune is not good. the ecu gets all different readings. take the intake off and go back to stock...maybe thats your problem with idling and jerking.....but ticking is more or less the lifters and injectors like everyone else is saying.....i have a loud engine bay lol
