ES to EVO Conversion
ES to EVO Conversion
So I have an 03 es lancer and I have the opportunity to remove the entire engine drivetrain and change it to an 04 evo mr. Now before I do this I need to know if it would be at all possible to pass smog? It would look stock like an evo but have a es vin. You may say it’s not worth it but at the price I’m getting the evo at it is. Thanks
this has been covered before. it cant be done. too many differences in the cars. by the way, there was no 2004 MR. if youre getting a salvage evo or something thats soooo cheap, youd be much better served trying to rebuild that.
heres the deal the car I am getting is an entire car for cheap it is not salvaged and I would not be using the same body of the ES so it can be done all I need to know is if it would pass smog. So really are the smog regulations the same for the two cars or is it harder on the ES because they have a smaller motor. Again this is really cheap and although it is illegal it is basically like a vin swap.
the es body and evo body ARE NOT the same
if the evo is not salvaged why wouldn't you just driving that?
and as someone else said there was no 04 mr

The reason i cannot drive the evo around is because he ows more on it than he wants to sell it for so i cannot get the pink slip but i do have my lancer to switch the vin with and im sorry it is not an MR it just had the wheel like one.

I don't think you can swap VIN legally. If I remember, it its a felony. I don't know much about CA smog laws, but if they do it based off the motor thats in the car and not whats supposed to be in the car, it should work. I mean, honda lovers swap stuff all the time and they pass the laws. Maybe its based off what size motor and if its turbo charged or whatnot. Sure, you can swap over the motor, but the whole transfer case and rear end will be a pain. Just go FWD with it.
