Is my dealer on crack?

They said my first oil change is at 5,000 miles... what the ****? As a part of me financing my car, I get free oil changes and maintence for 3 years, but they said the first oil change is 5k? I just hit 3k on my evo and I'm considering calling them and having them change my oil now instead of 5. what the hell are they smoking?

The manual recommended oil change at 5k.

Most dealership will do services based on what the mitsu manual recommendation.

isn't that a bit high for any car though? I've always changed my oil at 2.5k-3k miles.. won't 5k be a little damaging?

I changed mine at 2500. It’s an EVO after all and it’s worth it for me to spend $30 every 2500 miles on a case of Mobil 1 and a filter.

I'd do your 1st oil change around 1000 or after break-in, then after that, every 3000-5000 miles depending on how you drive it.

i didnt get the pit pass because i read the manual and saw that the first oil change would be at 5k. Im glad that i saved the money and danger to my engine because at 3500 my oil was filthy.

I change mine around 2000 miles. From the color, I don't advise someone to change the oil every 5k.

Every manufacturer recommends 5K. That's what "ideal" conditions would allow: highway driving, not dusty, hot, etc. Jiffy Lube started the whole 3K thing but it's pretty truthful for most people.

i got the same thing, the evo tech told me that because its synthetic, and doesn't break down like conventional, you just need to "add" oil during that 5000 mile period
