Those painting their emblem black and it chipping, are you doing anything to prep the emblem before hand?

I would think a light sanding and a primer beforehand would keep it from chipping sooner. I am going to be painting mine soon and was thinking of sanding the chrome off then using the plastic paint primer before painting it.

My front one is chipping due to collisions with foreign debris (bugs, dirt, general road grime, etc.). My rear one hasn't chipped at all. I used the Krylon paint that doesn't require sanding or priming.

I sanded mine, hit it with a green scotch brite, gray primmer, and flat black. It was off for all this too, you can just peel the chrome diamond star off the plastic mount and it is much easier than trying to tape off and spray around.

Yeah I was not going to tape off and spray on the car

I am sure I would somehow screw that up. So I am going to take them off and paint.

Is there a special way to prep and paint chrome? Everything chrome that got painted over that I've seen just ends up chipped fairly quickly.
