EVO Rotor sizes on Euro/JDM cars?

For non-US spec cars, I keep reading in Mitsubishi info online and in Press Kits about how the rotor sizes are 17" front and 16" rear. Is this really true? I don't see how is could be. The cars have the exact same 17" wheels and tires as we do, so how the heck could they jam a 17 INCH rotor in there?

Is there some sort of typo that's been accidentally propagated all over? Is there a slang-sort of reference standard in Japan that "17 inch rotors" means they fit under 17 inch wheels, not that the disc itself is actually 17 inches?

With real race cars rarely exceeding around 14.5 inches or so, I just can't imagine that any street car could have 17 inch rotors w/out it being headline news. I especially can't imagine how a 17 inch rotor could ever fit inside a 17 inch wheel (where would the caliper go??).

Does anyone have any insight?

i think the measurement isn't the same as US or is taken someother way, here we measure the actual rotor... had they measured the actual rotor my guess is it would have been in metric and not inchs.....

I think everyone agreed when that first came out, that it was a mistake. What they meant was either 17" wheels or that 17" wheels are needed to clear the rotors.

is that a 17 cm radius?

That would make it a 6.63 in radius or 13.26 inch diameter? Is that what they are?

That's just how they describe brakes in Europe or Japan. 17" means you need 17" wheels to fit over the brakes. I don't know why they don't just state the actual rotor size.
