30K service estimate of $800?!
^ But the problem with that is his extended warranty requires all maintenance to be done by a certified technician. He can't just get any Joe off of the forums who happens to know how to do it to perform the services.
oh. I didn't know he still had warranty since he was being charged like that. Id take it to a different mitsu dealership then in that case or couldnt he just do it himself?
When you own an Evo, you need to become your own mechanic else you're just going to get ripped off from everyone else..... except maybe another Evo owner.
I bought my car through AutoMax, and the extended warranty thing was a joke.
I bought the car with 3,600 miles on it and I got sold on an extended warranty.
3 months later and approximately another 3,000 miles on it, the car at the time made a ticking sound anytime over 2.5k RPMs. (Belt Tensioner was loose, had to be replaced.) I took it to AutoMax, they couldn't fix it because they didn't know how, and even though the contract said they would have a professional mechanic look at it if they didn't, they couldn't find anyone in the area knowledgeable with Evos. No one wanted to touch it because they were afraid to **** it up.
Needless to say, I got my $4,000 bucks refunded for a ****ty "extended warranty", they pro-rated that crap, and I took it to KevinD down in Irving, Texas to fix it.
He fixed my car with parts from his garbage can for pete's sake. LOL.
Needless to say, anything major that came up I went to him from that point on, smaller stuff I took care of myself. (Oil changes, fluids, brake pads, etc.)
Find someone knowledgeable, but your best mechanic doing most of the work, should be yourself.
Like what the other guys said: "Time to get your feet wet."
PS: Good luck on the extended warranty thing, read the fine print.

wors thing you can do is have a dealer swervice any of your cars, they are there to make money on you of course is a business, but the way they conduct those 30k 60k 100k miles services are a joke
i really get sick when i see them wanting to charge a couple hundred bucks for mile interval services why because they dont do nothing

BMW's inspection 2 service cost approx 1000 dollars ( @ a chicago bmw dealer rate of 138.00/hr. )
what actually gets done to these car is_
new spark plugs,
new intake filter
new wiper inserts
change oil and filter
change differential fluids
new a/c microfilter
and sometimes the techs will scan and clear faults in the cars.
all of that for a g note!!!!!

anyone with basic mechanicals and tools could do this in 2-3 hours in there driveway

thanks for the helpful suggestions. I do plan on learning/ doing alot of the basics. I have a few other evo friends around here that are very knowledgeable, so I have them to always ask questions. But as for the major stuff I figure if some one messes up then i can hold some one some what responsible because there isnt the chance of them saying "well we cant guarantee the work you do on your own car"
I do all my work myself except major stuff. Big stuff, take to dealership so if they **** up, they owe you a new Evo. Small stuff just ask someone on here or someone that has an Evo. Most of us are old DSM owners anyways. (^_^)
Legally, Mitsubishi Dealerships will say that *ANY* modifications from stock, and they can void the warranty.
Like I said, read the fine print.
Its a cruel, cruel world out there brotha.
Just have a buddy or someone come over, change your oil, check brake pads, change the wipers, check lines, etc etc. Make a maintenence day of it, and pay your friend with burgers and fries. LOL.
Thats what I did when I started learning how to fix my Evo. =P
