Unhappy 1st Service engine soon light...help!?

hey guys,

so some of you may know that i am a proud new owner of an evo VIII Well today i got struck with the first "Service Engine Soon" light....

It was really weird it just came on as i was letting it sit before i turned it off. I always let it sit for a min or so to cool dow the turbo and such...

anyway nothing seems to be acting up and i dont know why it just suddenly came on.

Now earlier today I ran the AC on MAX for pretty much the first time, and had barely any gas in the car. It stalled a couple times today when i would give it a little gas to nudge forward and push the clutch back in. I assumed that the ac was pullin to much air and just didnt have enough gas in it, anyway turned off the ac and everything was fine lol. Now the car is tuned and is a little rough at idle as well, so maybe ac was just to much.

anyway just wondering why the Service Enigine Soon light came on randomly tonight and not earlier, also why when it was just sitting? the car is just about to roll over 57k miles, could it just be a warning for the 60k service coming soon?? still new to the evo stuff lol. any suggestions or comments would help ease the panic tonight before i go to autozone tomorrow to check it out lol

thanks for all of your help guys!

yeah its a misfire code, unfortunately all the 2003 VIII including mine came like that, so youll get that code once a while and its nothing serious at all, you just have to add a little tiny file to your ECU and your good to go you will never ever gonna have the check engine go on again.

Since you own an Evo you need to own a code reader. These things pop codes a lot.

^^ I need to get one. As for the OP, I get misfire codes a bunch. How many miles do you have on your spark plugs? It may be a problem with that. The waste spark technology that they use for the ignition coils can lead to misfires really easily, so you could go all out and get one that has independent coils, Okada has one.

I use NGN IRs, but they usually last atleast 7K depending on how you drive so just as its mentioned you need to figure out the way so you can read that codes and find out what they are.
