I took my valve cover off to see if I had arp studs and cams, I had the cams but not the arps.... As I lifted the cover off this metal ring piece flew on the ground... Can anyone tell me what the hell this is?

Could be one of the rings that go in the holes in the plastic spark plug cover.

 

That's the first thing I thought of.
