6k miles on my launch-less car. No problems at all with the clutch. I also had the stainless steel line put in, but kept the restrictor. I definitely believe it's too early to say though, til around 20k miles.
10,300 miles... No probs whatsoever... A few hard launches at the track and street... Still going strong... 10 years experience driving this crazy AWD system with my old GSX to my beautiful EVO.. Maybe that has something to do with it..??
4005miles on her..fried it once at the 1/4 track...i take it to redline all the time when im on it..i never launch it on the streets..i never downshift no need to put the extra stress on clutch and tranny..im bone stock and clutch is as new as the day i drove it off the lot..
I think we can put the whole "the clutch sucks" thing to rest. Damn - here it is, Barney-style for all the Corkys out there:
Drag race stock Evo clutch = BAD
Anything but drag race = GOOD
Simple enough?

I would have liked to see the poll have 4 answers:
1.) Clutch is fine with no launches
2.) Clutch is fine with launches
3.) Clutch is not ok with launches
4.) Clutch is not ok with no launches
I'm currious to see how many people have clutch problems with no launches because part of me feels that most (not all) problems are related to launching the car.
Good poll and I'm happy to see that 75% of us don't have any problems.

Then you would have to add the fact that A: people don't know how to launch the car which would be a major factor, and B: wasn't this clutch designed for rough conditions, remember this is the same component thats in the japanese spec car....
Yes i'm happy to see that there aren't as many problems as people think, hoever i'd like every evo member to vote and vote honestly, I myself have a light chatter at random times usually when the car is cold or the nights are cold.... I do not like that and my throw out bearing makes a slight wine from day one and to me that isn't normal so i'm displeased with that. But mitsu said not to worry unless it gets worse so all i can do is hope it doesn't...

So did you count the small amount of chatter & noises as "problems" when you voted?
BTW, 5k miles, no problems. A few attempted hard launches, lots of abuse due to poor shifting technique & mistakes at high RPM (it's my first manual tranny). When I first got it, I started off in 3rd gear a few times accidentally. I've inhaled plenty of clutch smoke.
I believe what Chris said, drag racing will fry it, but other than that I don't see why it should die quickly.

I have noted that a lot of us tend to think that the Evo should be closer to indestructible because it is based on the rally/race car. Not being the racing type, my perception is the componants of all race cars and rally cars are far from being infallible. I believe the transmition/gear box/clutch/tires/brakes etc. bearly last a single race when they are made to run really hard.
Therefore, can we expect this humble street car to fair better if we beat the life out of it, everytime we use it? Does anyone concur?

Sorry the thread jack but, where did you all get the ss line and does it fit well or do you have to bend some.
also no real problems with the clutch. I just dont like how it engages at low rpms. also seems to slip a little under full boost
