I'm 6'1" and slept for 4 hours in mine on the way back to MN from KY for block leave.

It's not something I plan on doing ever again.

slept a few hours in evo not to bad, not great but doable once and a while. one of my first cars was a areostar mini got it for 500 bucks. took seats out and put four cinder blocks in the back with plywood and a twin mattress..... that was the shi.....t. drove back and forth all over the country in it pull right up to the lift chair at 3-4 am crash and wait till bowls were open at 10.
silly cold sometimes had a army down sleeping bag good for like -10 or 20, jump out of it and just start van get right back in it waiting for some heat. ......sorry for the reminiscing, youth is wasted on the young. Best part is I lost the ignition key somewhere. I smashed the ignition out with screwdriver and a rock. had to stick a butter knife in there and twist to start the van, I then tied the knife to the shifter.. lots of explaining to police anytime i got stopped.

I fully believe changing this law would prevent at least some drunk driving.
See this is not 100% true. I used to work for company that was apart of the DUI association here in Pennsylvania and there are technically "rules" to sleeping one off inside a car. Its all about intent to operate a motor vehicle and ones ability to operate one. If you are intoxicated and sitting in the drivers seat (with keys in or out of the ignition), you can be charged with a DUI because being in the operators seat means you are showing the ability to and intent to drive. If you are sleeping in the passenger/back seat with the keys in the ignition, you can be charged with a DUI because you are showing intent to operate the vehicle.

What do you do? Get in the passenger/backseat and put your keys in the glove box and sleep away. This is because, obviously, from the passenger seat you are taking away the ability to operate the vehicle and with the keys in the glove box you are taking away the intent to operate the vehicle. This does not mean a cop will not pick you up and throw you in the drunk tank trying to charge you with a DUI. It just means getting convicted of a DUI is nearly zero from the thousands of cases all over I have ever seen. What people have to remember is that cops are just trying to enforce the law to save innocent lives. I know of alot of friends of mine, that when real drunk, they will do things and never remember them the next day. Do you think they thought that decision through, while hammered, with a good amount of reason behind it? No way did they. What I am saying is what if you are drunk, sleeping in your drivers seat and keys in ignition, you get the urge to just get out of there and sleep at home? Do you think you have the ability to stop yourself from turning the key and going? No you don't because you are not thinking from a clean mind. This is what cops are trying to prevent you from doing to yourself and possibly others .
