what goes in this hole?

what goes in this hole?

i can see my transmission fluid. is it just a ruber grommet to plug it? why is it missing?




here are pics of whats suppose to go there from my brothers evo

I doubt you can see your fluid, it'd be puking out of there. Can you take a little wider shot so we have a frame of reference as to where this is?

right next to the shift linkage left of the rubber boot the pic is took sideways. and trust me its fluid i stuck my key in there and it had fluid on it.

and im suprised none has come out.

on that picture the upper shift linkage is on the right hand side off the picture.

I am fairly sure that that is the shift linkage on a 5 spd and that the picture is sideways.
Need to know if 5 or 6 spd if possible to help on the lookup in the manual.

I believe it is just a breather plug, you don't want dirt to get in there but the trans does need a vent at the top so don't plug it up solid.
