Stupid Insurance. What do you pay?

When I insured my new Evo, it was the cheapest to insure of my 3 cars. I wonder how the rates are calculated. The three cars were: 2003 Mitsu Evo , 2001 Camaro Z28 , and 1983 Mercedes 380SEC . Wouldn't you know it, the car that's only worth a few thousand, the '83 Merc, cost the most to insure, about $800/yr. for full coverage and 250/500 limits. The Camaro was in the middle, and the Evo cost the least, less than half the Mercedes.

I was pleasantly surprised that I can insure the Evo for under $400/yr. , but why does the insurance company have it so wrong? The Mercedes is disposable hardware at this point and yet it is the most expensive.

I'd be interested to hear what you're paying out there for your Evo insurance, and how your rates compare to what you're paying for other less sporty cars.

FYI, I'm a single guy in early 30's w/ clean record.

Yeah, but if you do get in an accident, it is by far the most expensive to repair. I was shocked, and so was my agent, when I got my State Farm insurance. The agent is a car guy, and knew what it was right away, and he was surprised at how cheap the insurance is. Let's just hope it stays that way.

WTF your 18 and only would pay 1300 for full coverage?? I own my evo and without a multi line discount because of homeowners insurance it would be 8000 a year to insure me. Im 18 and pay 3600 a year and have a clean record.

Also depends on where you live.

For example, I use to live in the Twin Cities. My two cars cost me $2000 every six months. Now I live near Rochester, out in hickville, and pay only $700 every six months for my to vehicles.

Repair prices also determine your cost. My newer vehicle costs less to insure than my older vehicle. But then again an Acura costs more to repair than a Subaru.

Mine just went down because I turned 25.

Now I pay just over $1000 every 6 months.

Single, clean record, USAA, Full coverage, Mississippi, $500 deductible, only vehicle (looking for a Gallant VR-4 as a second car).
