Unhappy Water seems to have damaged some electronics on steering column

2003 Evo 8:
There was a recently rainstorm and I left my windows slightly open, but it seems some got in and possibly damaged the electronics in my steering column. Everything regarding the driving and ignition of the car still works perfectly fine. However, the right and left turn indicators don't work. It seems to be the switch itself, because when I hit the emergency light button, the lights work. It's only when I try to switch left or right turn that it doesn't work. Also, the parking lights don't switch on (although the headlights work). As for the right side control knob, the front windshield sprayer doesn't work, and neither does the variable windshield wiper control. However, when I flip the switch down by two, the windshield wiper does work.

Also, when I pull out the key, the turbotimer doesn't know that I've taken the key out. i.e., the car just stay son and the turbotimer doesn't start ticking down. However, the radio does turn off. Very weird! I thought maybe it was the TT screwing things up, so I disconnected that, but same deal.

In summary, it looks like the switches don't work one position up or down, but they work two positions up/down.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on? I hope it's just a simple fuse problem...

It takes a few seconds to check the fuses, why not start there?

Sounds like the infamous gremlin issue. I'll try to find the link.

Making a 2nd post so that this is bumped. Read the thread, but the pictures are on the 3rd page. I think the explanation might be on the 1st page:

water damage gremlins

Good luck!

Holy Crap! I'm glad you remembered this thread! That sounds EXACTLY like what's going on with my car. I even have the weird ignition issue, where it cranks funny, except my car does actually start. Gonna take a look at the wiring tomorrow in the AM. It rained again a few hours ago, I hope things didn't get worse.

Yahu, how did you get the wires out of the connectors themselves? Did you pull them out and then solder them together or did you just cut it at the connector, strip the wire and then solder them? Pulling them out seems like a chore, been at it for a while and only got a couple out.

However, I checked all my connectors and none of them look corroded and all in good shape. I tried wiggling the connectors and still the same situation. I'm not quite sure this is my problem. Guess I can always bust out the ol' solder iron and give it a shot. I just didn't want to start cutting into wires.

Redid the wires in the large white connector, didn't seem to fix the problem. Took it to my shop and they couldn't figure it out either. Looks like I'm going to have to take it to the dealer....
