The best car that I will ever own...

** Me being bored on a saturday morning**

Hey everybody, how's it going? Well, it's been a while since I've had any fun driving my evo. Sorry to be reminiscent about this but I remember when I first purchased my 2004 apex silver evo viii back in 2004. I originally had the ralliart in 2003, and traded it a little after 9 months to get the evo. I believe it was a great decision at the time since I wanted to boost the ralliart and would have spent too much trying to make it much more of a car it was. It was like a damn dream come true to get the Evo as I was still an immature 19 year old kid at that time.

I drove my evo everywhere I went and I had a blast taking everybody out for a spin because I liked the attention. I enjoyed showing it off to my friends with their rival cars, with the likes of the STI's and the riced out SRT 4's. I especially enjoyed showing it off to all the pretty little females and giving them rides; they'd leave little pee stains on the seats because of how fast I drove (resolve carpet cleaner works good). I used to pay $300 bucks a month for insurance, 500 bucks a month for the car payment, and on top of that my school loans; it was freaking priceless. My damn life savings went into this thing! I did a little bit of small bolt on mods, but nothing major as I didn't have the money to actually mod it the way that I wanted to.

As time passed, I kind of stopped driving it and a lot of factors contributed to this, such as graduating from college and moving, work, and etc. When people asked me what I drove I used to tell them, "I have an evo parked at home,"and they'd say, "whatever you f'n liar." I actually didn't care about that anymore and I kind of grew out of that phase of my life. I started to hate driving everywhere because of the attention the damn car got when I drove it. I was pondering the thought of selling it, quite a few times actually. I had it posted it for sale numerous times over the years, but I always backed out from selling it.

The reason being, I never drove the damn thing, plus it was and still is parked in front of my parents house a few hours away from where I currently reside. I don't remember the last time I drove my evo, nor do I remember the last time I washed that filthy dust polluted car. I really don't have a place to park it at my location and I sure to miss driving the Evoo! I know that my car is waiting for me to return behind the steering wheel and wake her up. Used to go to the drag strip to watch everybody else race their evo's but I couldn't afford to do that to my car yet...

I wanted to get an acura TL, g35 or a 350 since there was no need for a 4 door sedan. However, compared to the Evo, nothing beats this car out. As in, the evo is the best car that I own and will probably ever own in the 30 grand price range. Domestic, or import, even if it's you think it's a ****subishi, I've never drove another car that outperformed the evo in the same price range, even after 5 years.

I've finally made my decision. I've decided that I'm going to keep it forever and hand it off to my future son and then have him pass it down to my grandchild. By that time there might be an evo XXX out or no evo's at all. The Evo is Well, mid next year I plan on moving to a better location, somewhere I can actually park my car in a garage or in a closed area and hopefully bring my car up north. As I stated above I never had the chance to actually mod the car like the way I wanted to. All my bills have been paid off, but it's sure as hell expensive to live up here :-/.... I have some money saved up and wouldn't mind going all out and dropping my wallet on the car.

All in all, it's finally that time. It's time to revive my evo back to life next year. I'd like to put about 5-10k into my evo, performance wise, and make my aging self feel like a young kid again and have the same feeling I had when I drove it for the first time (shart in my pants and almost hit a tree). Damn, I really miss those earlier years...Anyway, what would you guys do in this situation. Would you go all out and splurge, any recommendations? Or, should I finally take that long awaited vacation I've always wanted to and finally use my passport and travel the world?

By the way, has anybody been in the same boat as myself, being indecisive about selling their evo's and finally deciding on keeping it for the long run? I wonder how many people still own their original 2003 - 2005 evo's and still plan on dropping some serious cash into them.

So are there are any wizards season ticket holders on here? Ok enough babbling on, I'm just typing randomness now lol.

My evo was getting pretty boring after not modding. I don't get on it 95% of the time, it's my DD. But after a while, it gets boring. That's when you need a lift-me-up. I bought a TBE and an intake/LICP/UICP and put it on, that was fun!

After that drew down, I slowly accumulated the parts for an E85 conversion (!). I got my car tuned last monday at Full Function in Union City and the results impressed the crap out of me. From roughly stock whp/tq to 369 WHP, 361 TQ! The car is a BLAST to drive now, it's like a brand new car!

If you have access to E85, the price isn't high at all to convert. I would mod the car, you can travel when you're retired. Your son would crap his pants if you gave him a decently modded evo. But just remember, don't make this your sons first car! The urge is pretty high- the car makes you feel invincible. Warm him up with some other cars before you give him [even a stock] the evo.

^^ You don't want to give your son a modded Evo. It's a crime to do so

I would hardly call 24 being old...

Anyway, why don't you do both? Drop 5k on the Evo and spend the other 5k traveling the world? Tickets are not that expensive depending on where you want to go, and if you went to Europe you could do the "backpack" tour and stay in hostels (not in Bratislava though...)

Some days driving the Evo does get old, especially in traffic etc... However, once you are able to hit WOT, even just for a little bit, all of that stuff goes away.

I think you are at a point in your life where you can appreciate the car for what it is and what it means to you.

I guess I, currently, am in the stage that you were in when you first bought your Evo. I bought my Evo about 2 weeks ago after having 3 cars before this; I'm 19.

Anyways, If I were in your place, I probably would mod the Evo. Not sure that I would put 5k into it, but at least the basics.
Once you do that you should take it to the track and race it! And not just drag... do some autocross!

On the other hand, I really have had no urge to travel the world, yet.. But if that's something like you said you wanted.. "long awaited vacation I've always wanted". Then you answered your own question!

I don't know what kind of financial situation you are in but it would be a great idea to invest some money.

Do both, and save some money!

I bought my first Evo in 2003 when I was 27, single, and no kids. I bought my 2nd Evo when I was 32, married and two little boys. I'm 34 years old now and mod my car when I can. I still enjoy driving it when I get the chance cause its not my daily driver. Where I'm at in my life, I honestly don't think any other car will work for me.

Things have changed for me from when I first bought my first Evo. I still mod it, but not as fast and I always look for cheaper alternatives without putting junk on my car. I think modding it at a slower pace is what keeps me interested in the car.

Good luck with your decision. I can't honestly say I'll keep my Evo to pass it down, but I do plan on keeping it for a long time. Everything is always for sale.

I'm 23 or so, and I just bought mine. Having already seen enough of the dark side of things in the world I'm content to enjoy my car, tinker with it, do a little AutoX and overall enjoy. I am a motorcycle rider, have been for 4 years and finally having a car again has me excited.

I have waited many years since I enlisted (well 4 isnt many, but 18 y/o with car lust and a steady paycheck it is) to get an Evo or an Sti. I finally found a cream puff of an Evo and I cant be more excited.

I do have some advice, I would not give this to your son for a first car, far to tempted and judgeing by the lessons u learned at that age, not a good idea. I would make him buy his own **** box and work for it, make him suffer a little so he knows when he crawls in to it hes getting something truly special and something to be taken care of and enjoyed. To many young kids beat on these car's and it makes me sad. Thier may not BE car's like this when he grow's up, they are already classics in the sense that in America you wont see them again. We might even be facing the final age of fossil fuels and dont even know it yet.

In the end, get some travelling done, enjoy yourself (FYI- Third World Countries are eye openers if you can go, just be careful and keep your wits about you at all times. At the very least carry a knife). Experiance's can never be taken away or replaced and traveling is certainly an experiance. Get it done while your still young.

Thanks for all the input everybody. I think I'll take that advice and purchase some goodies for the evo soon. I believe that when I start modding it again; take it all the way up to 450-600 whp! Not going to dump everything I have into it all at once but at a moderate pace to get it to where I've always wanted to be. I'll be able to appreciate the car even more, though, I won't be going the E85 route yet since there are no gas stations around here that carry that yet. It's not like I'm putting up the car for sale like I did previously because of my financial situation, so I don't mind spending a little. As long as I'm happy it's all good. I'll have the chance to take the evo to the track for the first time and I know that will definitely be fun. Now, I just have to find a way to get my car up here as soon as possible!

As for my future son driving the evo, it all depends on how everything works out by then. If I'm not driving the car anymore and it's collecting dust just like it's doing now, I'll hand it down to the little man. That is, once he understands how valuable the car was to me and is mature enough to drive it properly. I don't think they'll be another import car as nice as the evo that will be around during that time. Have to keep a future classic car in the best condition possible.

Backpacking does sound awesome and I think it's something that I should do soon instead of waiting. I might have to hit up many different places during my vacation outing . Still unsure if I want to head to somewhere in Asia or the do Euro trip thing. Trying to get a few buddies together to go with me. For sure, I'm going carry my swiss army + my don't tase me bro when I travel.

Which parts would you guys recommend for me to start my modding process. I've already got some of the regular bolt-ons such as exhaust, ic piping, gas pump flash, maybe get a clutch, flywheel, meth??

Also, which countries should I visit? I'm one very indecisive mother f**** so I don't really know, I just know that I wanna go somewhere out this country for a while! I kinda want to visit my motherland back in South Korea but it's expensive there :=x. And I don't think any of my relatives would wanna see me anymore since I'm a grown *** man and not that young little kid anymore lol. If Asia, I was thinking of the philippines, vietnam, thailand, singapore, etc. If it's Europe, I know sure as hell that I'll be over that damn continent.

Likewise with the bolt on's, that what I'm starting with for now, mainly going to focus on suspension, wheels, and tires (wheels and tires next spring/summer). I am a little OCD when it comes to stiffening the suspension/chassis. If you havent got swaybar's, spring's, alignment, etc.... I would recommend going for that as your next route of modding. That and some good tires.

BTW- Even if you dont smoke, carry a lighter and a few packs of american marlboro's, they make a good ice breaker/bribing tool if your ever caught in a situation that need's either. Carrying cash is good as well in case you cant use a debit, just make sure u keep an eye on your wallet/bags (a necklace wallet is a good idea to carry your passport/ID/money/credit/debit cards). Were you go, I would suggest Europe if your not a travel vetera. Europe would make things easier to visit alot of places cheaper. I spent a year in Korea per the Army, interesting place. DMZ is definatly something u need to see. Stay away from the middle east unless its Dubai/Quatar. Now THAT is some expensive vacationing. Lets face it, the desert blow's.

Don't mod the car. Any money you spend on mods will just be making the car worth less. Keep it stock, and in the long run it will be rarer and worth more. And less likely to need expensive repairs.

Overseas travel is amazing. Do it while you can, because you never know what life is going to throw at you. I didn't go overseas for the first time until I was in my 40s. It was a mistake to wait so long.

One last thing: start contributing to a 401(k) if you're not already. Your age means you have The Miracle of Compound Interest on your side. (Recommended reading: "The Wealthy Barber".)

It's great that you're thinking long-term and pondering life's questions. At your age I was still living with my parents!

Good luck!

Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Paris, nice, Milan, Almalfi coast, Sardinia, Ibiza, baden baden, Hiedleberg, Munich, Zurich, lots of places in Europe to check out. Also any of the Greek Islands.
I traveled most of the US before I started going to Europe. Cool places here Badlands nat park
Colorado Rockies, Grand junction, anywhere in Utah is scenic. PCH from California to Seattle.
I traveled from 20yrs old to 29yrs old then got my first full time job. Me my rottie and a ford Areostar I bought for 500bucks. Even saw the jolly green giant in Minnesota. lots of cool and bizarre stuff out there. BTW trains in Europe are so sweet.

I'd have to vote for the traveling or as another said, invest. Never too early. (You will thank yourself when you're mid 40s with some $. Plus thats like almost 20years from now which there's a lot of time for money to mature. )

I'm the same age as you and I wish I wouldn't have spent what I did on my car. I bought it new cash and the mods in cash. Shoulda just kept it invested.

I'm actually ready to sell my car because I'm tired of driving around with exhaust, and all that comes wih the mods. I actually kinda wish it was stock now, lol. Ironic huh?

Good luck with your choice!
