I have a friend who does that (what a hassle that is to go behind restaurants and take used grease/strain it/store it, etc)...he does not have an EVO, and he smells like a Chip wagon making french frys...lol.

Don't know about gas in P.R., as I've never been there...is it difficult to find 91 or higher?

If your driving it like the car should be driven you are going to knock and it will 1) pull timing and 2) drive like poop. Any reason on why you would want to do this? Most of the people on here mod their car, so you spend all the money on top dollar mods and getting peak performance out of the car and then you put **** gas in it and it drives like ***. Doesn't make sense to me...

There is no reason for the crap talk that is in this thread.

To the OP, this can and has been done. I believe there is a thread in ECUflash section about running on 87. The OP of that thread i believe could get 18psi tune out of 87, not bad imo. I have also considered doing it for a DD tune. Why not right?

That said, you cannot just fill up and turn down the boost. You would need a proper tune with proper timing and fueling to be safe.

Here we have the same fuel as in the States, 87, 91 and 93.
DD evo 8, mods: bigger inter.,ARC intake box, Evo 9 turbo, 3" exhoust pipe, decat.
Highway miles most of the time.
I'm looking for fuel economy not for top performance at this time.

You can, like others have said you'll need a tune.. IMO its pointless, you don't save that much money, and there's always public transport if you need to save money

Who takes the bus when you have an EVO?
Does that car take 91 or 93 octane? My EVO X takes 93, but I can only get 94 around here...it's about $.20 more per liter than 87 octane.

I already asked people to cut out the crap talk. The OP has a legitimate question, which has been answered. No one cares if you agree or not. Stick to technical input or dont post.

No. The engine is designed to take 91 Octane to reduce knock. Everything in the car is designed for 91, this includes the fuel pump, lines, filter, pressure regulator, and the engine internals. Use of 87 over an extended amount of time will do two things. It will create knock in the engine which is not a good thing at all, and two it will destroy your catalytic converter.

Thanks to all guys for your great and helpful opinions. I'll stick with the 91-93 octane fuel. To Aschold you have no need for use the hostile language. Thanks MR Turco. Rules are rules.

If youre tuned for 87... sure... Don't expect alot of power though...

I drove my car 2400 miles round trip on 87.. saved prob about $100-$120.. was worth it since i wasn't racing anyone...

Cheers!

How will it destroy your cat? Octane is essentially knock resistance, the more octane more knock resistance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating). Octane should no affect anything else other than the ability to resist knock. Additives to fuel, lead, ethanol, are what need to be considered with other components.

Like i said. The car is designed to have fuel with higher knock resistance. Proper timing and fueling (read: retune) WILL allow the car to run a lower octane fuel.

mr turco, you beat me to it.... evorob22 is pulling facts out his ****.... what does fuel filter and pump etc has to do with octane rating. i cracked up reading his response.

PEOPLE!!!!~ octane is for knock reduction and has nothing to do with anything else like "cleanness" or compatability of any hardware
