questions about rpms during shifts
okay so i just bought an evo and during shifts the rpms seem to raise.. i originally thought that maybe my cluitch travel was set too high (and it was) so i set the clutch takeup lower and it seems to have helped a little bit but now when i shift at higher rpms they still seems to "hang" during shifts. They actually jump up a little bit then lower down.. I'm not mashing the throttle or anything just driving and shifting at higher rpms ex- downshifting and then upshifting to pass a car. anyways i did a search but i didn't see anything but if you guys have any ideas let me know
yea its frustrating as HELL i guess i'm going to have to figure out a way to get rid of this, i don't even want to punch it until i can figure out what the hell is causing the rpms to jump.. i just feel like i am running the risk of overrevving the car
There is a couple thread in the ECUflash forums.
Do you have a cable?
EDIT - when searchin use "throttle hang"

thanks for all the info guys, yea i'm def going to check into this "throttle hang" i know some evo guys in my area that i hang with pretty often, i was going to try and save my map this weekend anyways so i guess i'll look a little deeper when i datalog
Excellent thread. My Evo does the "throttle hang" sometimes as well. Im glad its nothing abnormal-I thought my clutch or flywheel was messed up. I plan on flashing my ECU very soon so we will see what happens....

well i was reading aroud this weekend trying to find out what exactly was causing this issure, because i was having a hunch that this may be a mechanical problem, but before i could start taking parts off to check out the problem, it went a away suddenly.. the guy that i bought my evo from was very easyu on the car, so am i, so i figure that maybe there was carbon keeping the throttle body open at higher revs for some reason.. its weird
I have the same problem. I'm the original owner of my 06 IX and it has 70K miles on her. The RPM problem just started for me about 10k miles ago, whenever I shift it goes up 300-500 rpms. From talking to locals and some shops it seems to be a mechanical problem, something about a wire/cable with gunk built up causing the issues. I'm going to have it checked out and see if I can fix it.
Just so every one know. This a known problem on all 05+ EVOs. It is an emission/ecu thing.
A regular tuner flash wont fix it, as most tuners dont know how/what to fix, but it can be fixed with Ecuflash. There is two big threads about it in the Ecuflash sub forum.
