need to rant!!!!
Hi guys,
i know some of you will think that i am crying and *****ing but i don't care. the reason i started this thread is because i am getting sick and tired of seeing the exact same threads over and over again. everyday, a new guy comes on and asks the exact same question without searching first which in turn causes multiple threads about the same thing. everday that i log on i see the same questions on the front page:
"what can i do to make my car faster?"
" which BOV is the best for the EVO?"
"which exahust is better x or y?"
what kind of x do i need to get for the EVO?"
come on people, all you do with those questions is slowing down the site and making it harder on the rest of us to find usefull information. i am the first one to try to help people with questions but it is getting real annoying to say the same thing over and over. is it really that hard to use the search botton???? it works magic for me.
sorry for the long rant

I agree, seeing the same thing over and over is getting old.
When a new user registers, is there something in BIG BOLD LETTERS that tells them to search before posting any topic? I'm not sure, but maybe there should be something like that. I know it says it in the site guidelines, but honestly how many noobs do you think read that?

well in my own opinion, nothing will change until Mark and the mods will start doing something about it. we have too many kids and trolls on this site who are just looking to ask dumb questions and start fights.
See though, when I joined, this place was much, MUCH smaller, and far more friendly.
There are people just hanging around to tell others to SEARCH.
I think maybe some of the inactive members need to be removed. There are people who haven't been here since they joined, I'd bet. That might free up some server load.
As for people asking dumb questions, nothing will ever stop that. Somebody unfamiliar with this board isn't immediately going to know what topics have already been discussed.
Maybe if there was a checkbox in the registration that says "I *so and so user* promise to search for answers to my questions before creating new threads" or something to the effect, and maybe if you can't complete registration without checking that box...well. You get the idea.
Not that it would solve anything, but it might just make new members aware that the feature is around before they have a chance to be let loose on us all.

i agree with everything you said:
1) there are a lot of poeple on the board that really don;t do anything except getting into fights.
2) i would like to think that most people on this board know about the search function and are familier with the board. also, that is why we have a newbie section to make them familier with the setup but no one seems to give a crap about it.
3) i really don't have anymore to advice, but i feel that something needs to be done. no more is HKS BOV good for the evo (i hate that question). which tuner is better x or y? ( i think we all know what names pops up the most) we have enough reading material on this subject to write 10 books.

I think that the best way to deal with people is to be respectful and courteous. When I first started coming to this site about a year ago (I just lurked without registering for a very long time... I still lurk for the most part) but people seemed to be more helpful back then.
Even when someone new would come to the boards and ask a question about something that had been discussed older members would "Respectfully" guide them to the search feature or even to the thread that pertained to their topic of interest. That still happens from time to time still, but many times now people take it upon themselves to, in a mean spirited fashion, tell the people that it has been talked about before.
Furthermore, within the last few months things changed allot. People on this board have become more and more hostile to new people who just generally are new and not accustomed to using the search feature or navigating this board. I mean part of the reason I am still in Newbie status is because I rarely post at all because of the search feature. And I am sure my Newbie status also has to do with the fear of being ostracized by some of the older members for some of my questions.
Newbies will be Newbies and isn't it not just the moderators job to help them out. If this board is suppose to be a place for the open discussion of questions pertaining to our cars then I say let there be the stupid question from now and then.
As far as trolls, I just ignore them for the most part unless they insult a member, then I dawn my flame retardant suit and burn their asses... cause trolls suck. I take that back, I usually just ignore them. It doesn’t seem to bother me that much after that.

PS- I have more of a problem with bad grammar than over posted topics. There should be a spell check feature before posting.
The other day I posted a question without doing a search. someone came to my post and said, do a search first. Why should I? People need to realize that people may be asking questioned because they want to interact with other members.
I do see your point however.High traffic me be slowing down the site. But it will take something else to fix that.
Thanks,

i am sorry about the kids remark, i meant it in a different way. what i meant to say was "kids" as in peolple who are being immature and post about dumb stuff and start fights and cursing poeple for no reason.
sorry for the confusion.
if you do a search under my name you will see that i have nothing against helping new people.

I've been told there are no dumb questions, but i think thats a lie
seriously though, you could give it some effort to find an answer to these questions on your own before posting and wanting someone else to do the work for you.
you can interact through exsiting threads about the same subject. there is no reason to have 1830 threads about the same thing. also, due to this way of thinking, when someone actually tries to use the search option he is getting 1000 results which he has to go through to find a small piece of info.

There is a post called "well well well" out in Evo General, I think. All it has become is one huge argument. It's actually entertaining to read.
I have helped many newbies in my day, and I continue to do so, but sometimes I see a post on the recent list called "what exhaust for my Evo" and like the second above that is "need exhaust suggestion for Evo."
If people just paid a little attention, things would run more smoothly. I myself have posted topics that have come up before. Usually, a mod would tell me to search. Now, I leave a message to delete the thread if there is a preexisting discussion.
Shingen, as for a spell checker, that would be awesome...but think of the system that would have to handle that! My god, how many people around use l33t speak!? Half the members don't even type full words! Sheesh.
