Should I take Evo to Germany?
I lived in Europe for 26 years of my life(born and raised there), I would feel very confident to take a Mitsubishi Evo there because there are many dealers that can work on the car. I am also in the USAF (AD) and also been stationed there in 2000' for a long tour acompanied, additionally I also have a Evo IX SE with the same mileage(doesn't get any better than this)?
Take the Evo and don't look back. Just be aware that the TUV inspection is 1000000000000 times more restrict than any inspection you will ever get in the USA. In Germany they will look for absolutely everything mechanical and even body wise. Once there your car will be an exotic, there aren''t many Evos in Europe because it is a rare car with poor gas mileage and they mostly drive Diesel cars hatchbacks so you will turn a lot of heads.
Best of luck, by the way, where are you going? Ramstein,Spangdahlem, Simbad ? what job?

I believe you have 6 months after you pcs to decided if you wanna ship it over. I did that when i got orders to Hawaii, I thought, "why would I need a car in Hawaii??" that lasted about 2 weeks.... As long as you are authorized in your orders to transport a car, your golden. Whats the shipping time? 45 days?? Where are you going?? I was in Baumholder and I wish I had an evo over there instead of my POS Ford Taunus...
its near impossible, don't expect the military's company to ship it for you back to the usa. I've seen people that were in Japan with those cars able to ship it to there next base in germany
Not really true. Even European cars are a nightmare to bring to the US when they are not on US department of transportation safety standards. Only cars that you can bring alsmost issue free is classic cars which can dodge the emissions and safety regs.

I'd take it. I had orders to UK and I took my EVO with me and I was just happy that I was driving something familiar to me. UKs laws are a little more strigent than Germany....you shouldn't have to do any or no conversions to meet the law requirements. Have fun on the autobahn.......you might run into my old evo over there. The guy I sold it to in the UK got stationed over there a few months ago.

^^ had a First Gen RHD Eunos Roadster(miata) in Yokosuka that they wouldnt even let me ship back in household goods (all they care about is weight and this car weight nothing). The Goverment is very strict on what you can bring back, based on the NHTSA schedule. The only way around that was if the car is over 25 or 20 years old or it will be used as a track/show vehicle. I was trying to find a 180Z or a box skyline to bring back, but them things are like collectors items in Japan. So I had to junk my miata. good thing I only paid 200 bucks for her.
There is no point of leaving a Evo IX in storage for two years. Him being the the USAF stationed there he is in the top of the world, he can travel thorugh Europe with US military gas coupons.
To me there is absolutelty no doubt that I would recommend him to take the Evo. The one thing I failed to mention is the insurance rates, that will kill him but on the same note the COLA that he will get will be of at least $1500 extra a month so that will cover for his expenses(gas insurance, maintance).

Been at Heildelberg a few times and other german cities but stationed in RAF Lakenheath with the USAF(48th CMS). I took many liberty passes while stationed in the UK plus the previous years I live in Europe I travel a lot. My half sister lives in Germany (born and raised there) but my name suggest I am not from Germany though. How about you?

insurance wasn't bad, my coworker's wife worked at one of the insurance places off base. USAA will try and rape you though. I was single and had a lot of fun there, was my first duty assignment. After pcs'ing to mcchord afb and being back in the states I got a speeding ticket within a week for 20 over lol. Was too used to driving in Germany. But if you are in the dorms you will only get 47% cola which was only an extra 200 or so a month but if you get off base you will make a lot.
