I put in a little over 4 1/2, start the car, then let it run for a few seconds. When I check the level its at the full line. I think that little extra at 5 qts even wont harm anything. Now if you did 5 1/2 or more then yes, I would drain some of it out.

Is the oil pickup in the Evo's oil pan located towards the front or the rear of the pan?

All Data says 4.8qts not including oil filter so 5qts sounds fine

As I said before, 5 isn't a drastic overfill. There is even a picture that was in a manual that came with the car, or a brochure that dealers had describing the 4G63 and it said a few things about the motor. One had to do with make sure it is warm before running, etc. Another one of the subsections is about the oil, it says something like "fully synthetic oil flows through these veins..." and it also said be sure to check the level in between changes because it is normal for these motors to burn a little oil.

I have seen the picture on here but can't find it to repost here. I still a firm believer that burning a little oil in between changes is normal, just keep an eye on it. Run a catch can too, just to be safe about it recirculating back into the intake.

Its 4.8 quarts *****-dry thats what people aren't understanding. Also, if your not draining your oil cooler each time your not getting all the oil out (so 4.3 - 4.5qt will about fill it).

yes it just sits in there. you would have to unhook it to drain it.

your safe pouring 5 quarts in on your oil changes as long as you change the filter everytime and wait for all the old oil to drain out of the pan. thats how i do it with no negative effects and i change in every 3thousand miles. but DO NOT put anything over 5 quarts.

sorry to bring this thread back to life lol but if you check your dipstick right after the car was running and there are a few reallly tiny bubbles thats normal right? mine is barely over the full line when the engine is warm and almost right at the full line when its cold.
