cf hood help

well, my hood needs painted the clear coat is cracked all over the place by the vent and water has got under neath the clear coat and pretty much made it look like crap.

My question is, if i get it painted and install a tubular manifold, would this cause the paint to actually melt? its seibon oem cf hood.

Dumb question but i need to know if i should just buy a oem tb hood

It shouldnt, but I have seen crazier things happen on evos though. I would just have it re-cleared, it would probably save you some too.

^Hood pins installed, meaning holes drilled in the CF? Does that include the hardware? I suppose all that for the hood and wing seems like a pretty good deal.

Ya 200 is a ton. It's easy to do.

DO NOT DRILL INTO CF, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO USE A DREMEL TOOL. DRILL WILL CRACK THE CLEARCOAT.

^$200 doesn't seem bad if they correctly drill (yes, I know to use a dremel and tape, the dust is nasty, etc.), supply the hardware and mount it properly, and they sand/re-clear the CF of the hood and the wing. The OP mentions paint so they are going to paint over the CF with color?

sorry on the delay =/, i bought the car with all the cracks in the hood already.
Its pretty much waxed everymonth to a shine. I take pride in my car. Its usually always clean.

I didnt want to paint the cf, but it looks so bad... All the hardware is included labor everything for 200$, my body shop knows me and discounts me cuz i get so many of my friends to go to him. He painted 350z two evo8s and an x.

I can talk to him about just re-clear coating. But if i do that, wont the cracks just come back? its seibon and i hear the clear coat they use = crap ;/...
My friends evo has the same hood and its cracked all over the place in the SAME spot!

Just lookin for advice, id rather keep it cf. Lol, hes put hood pins in all of my friends hoods and they have no cracks. 2 years and their still going stong.

Because when you roll up and it appears no CF but the design of hood is diff. then people start wondering and if you pop your hood at a show or meet and it appears CF under that catches peoples attention I'm painting my deck lid and hood (both cf) on just the outside and leaving the under side un painted so its still visiable when lifted. I believe it's MO Betta that Way!

^I can see your point but to me it feels like you're having to explain the joke, if you get that analogy. I think it is cool when people paint part of their hood but keep some of the CF exposed - as long as it is done tastefully and not ricefully.

EViR - the clear coat from Seibon is crap, from what I hear. Your painter would wet sand it down then re-clear it so it shouldn't be as much of a problem. Honestly, clear coat will eventually have issues if left in the sun and not maintained properly. It sounds like you at least keep good care of your car. Best of luck on your decision!

Agreed. Seibon is garbage. After my garaged Evo began to have the Seibon CF hood fade, I made a choice to never deal with that brand again. Go Vis. Better quality product and definitely worth the extra cost.

While I agree that Vis is good, I've seen Vis stuff fade too. Bottom line, maintain the CF well and it will last longer. Also, not having it parked in the sun all the time would obviously extend the life.
