turbo coolant flow
turbo coolant flow
i just got my theft recovery evo that was missing turbo so i got new turbo in and cranked the car. Coolant wasnt flowing on turbo side. I was wondering if it should or not till it warms up?
thats what i tough, i did not warmed the car up to its normal cause i was afraid of turbo fail. I attached clear tube to make sure coolant flows when car warms up. Any input on routing turbo coolant lines? Upper aluminum turbo hose connects to upper aluminum hose on the head and bottom to a bottom right? Sorry for dumb questions but my car was all srtiped and im almost to the end finishing last steps. If any of you have spare t case, let me know
I looked and the turbo should get coolant flow at all times and is unaffected by the thermostat. If you open up the housing you will see. Basically everything below the seam (turbo, temp sensors) of the tstat housing will always have coolant flow to it. The tstat determines if it flows out of the upper rad hose (hot) or down through the bottom of the housing bypassing the rad (cold).
If you don't have flow through your turbo, I doubt you have any flow at all.

Might have bigger coolant problems then just not getting coolant to the turbo. Clogged radiator....clog in one of the hoses....air bubble....ect. Might want to start checking that and let us know what you find.
True, but he will destroy his engine if there's not coolant flowing through it. If there's not water in the thermostat housing then his temp sensor probably won't read and he won't have gauge indication that his motor is overheating.
Ill do a coolant flush and see what happens then. Any input or line routing? The one that comes out from top of the turbo connects to top aluminum hose on head and bottom to bottom? I bet thats the way it is but its always good to double check with u guys
from what i could see the top line coming off the head mates with the front of the turbo and the bottom line meets with the rear of the turbo.
the top line on the turbo is the oil feed and the bottom is the oil return.
this is on a stock turbo evo VIII.
hope this helps and again shhot me a pm if youd like some pictures
