Walbros have a pretty high failure rate. I'm on my second one. My first never actually broke, but it was whining so loud I couldn't carry on a conversation or hear my radio.

I was just about to start the same thread.

I've had mine installed for over 3 years now. Today I take the car for a ride, whining at idle like crazy! And as soon as the relay switched over to full voltage, it sounds like a race pump.
It's done this before from time to time, but never this long.
Before, you couldn't even tell it was a Walbro at idle (low voltage).

I was beginning to think the relay was going bad or something.

I took the pump out inspected it and put it back in and its fine now, but i came to a cpl conlcusions/truth
1) the super high flow ones GSS342 are very loud (thats what i have btw)
2) they dont like the heat, so when its hot outside it will whine
3) long drives cause a wine on the pump (which also relates to heat bein build from long drives)
4) The whine DOES NOT have to do with low gas tank (as some mention sometimes)

I tested all these theories and i also talked to the aftermarket performance branch of walbro here in michigan and they also told me the same things, and they also told me that IF the pump goes bad it will just stop working and if you want you can send it back to walbro for inspections, and if its their fault they will sent you a new one....so no worries when they whine.

not trying to thread jack but i was wondering if my pump is going bad also cuz at idle my car keeps stalling and my pump at idle sounds like its sending mors code messages so its not a smooth whine but a really bumpy one??????

No worries when they whine?

It doesn't matter what they say....anyone reading this should think about replacing their pump the second the whine begins to get louder and louder. This means the pumps bearings are going bad. It's not a question if the pump will fail...but when it will fail.

You can buy a brand new walboro for $75. Why would anyone chance their pump failing at wide open.....blowing up their engine in a lean condition......just to save $75.

I just replaced both mine in my double pumper for the second time. These pumps are not made to last forever.

Skott... same here, 99 % of the time.

I took mine for a ride, again, today and it was as quiet as can be, so temp and fuel level has nothing to do with it as it was just as warm and the fuel level was about the same, if not lower. I'm going to record some voltage numbers when it's quiet v/s loud. I'm betting there are voltage differences.
