my exhaust broke

so last night i was driving my 03 evo a little aggressive on an s turn when all of a sudden the car got a little louder. i thought it was an intercooler pipe but i was still getting boost. when i pulled over and looked underneath i saw the exhaust just hangin there????
obviously it is fixable but me being a noob to 4cyl turbo deals i dont know if it is bad to run it if i just removed the muffler for now. the car felt a little slower (car is 100% stock) after it broke. i dunno if having a little less back pressure would make it run more lean or rich or if it would even effect it. now would be a perfect time to get the turbo back i was wanting but i am broke at the moment. here is a pic of the exhaust.
also, has this happened to anyone else?
this is the 3' section thats bolted to the cat

oh snap(no pun intended)

Looks like the rust got the best of it. If your on a tight budget I'm sure you could pick up a catback in the classifieds here for real cheap. I got my RMR catback from a local for 100 bucks.

I have the entire stock TBE it is in my garage and want to get rid of it. I think it has 4k miles on it the thing is just like new. I didn't even do anything special to get it off no corrission or anything. Let me know if you want it I am all the way in SE Louisiana so it would have to be shipped to you.

doesnt look like rust caused the muffler to seperate from the pipe.

To me, it looks like the original weld wasnt very good and after viabrations, etc, its caused the pipe to just slide off.

ok to run to drive to get it re-welded but i would only go lightly on throttle as it'll be loud and your exhaust gases will exit under the car (so idling on the spot would be bad)

if it broke before the rear o2 sensor, it could be trouble. after the o2, it'll just be annoying. good luck!

You might be a little careful driving with it, you don't want to get co poisening. I'd keep the windows rolled down until fixed.

a muffler shop should be able to fix it really quick and inexpensive.

Good job.

But check out the wear on your rear tires. It looks like they are starting to scalap/cup on the inner edges.
