Power Steering Pump Not Working

My buddy bought his Evo 8 about a month ago. Last night we went out in an industrial area and we hit some very tight hard turns. All of a sudden he said, whoa, the steering feels weird. So he stopped and yes, the Power steering was gone. We looked for any type of fuse but couldn't find it. he's taking it into the dealership next week. Anyone else have that problem?

I have herd of this happening before. I am not sure why it happens but when you hold the wheel locked to either side for a long period of time, it burns the pump out. You will not beable to find a fuse, because the power steering is not electronic.

He didn't have it held down too long. Just very strange to go out so quickly.

Holding the wheel at lock strains the system. Even if he only held it for a second, it could cause damage....Damage that might not be noticeable until he holds it at lock on a few other occasions.

Sounds like a warranty covered item to me.

I saw a guy at an autocross blow his pump.

Seems to me that when you give the steering wheel a workout, it may not always be able to handle it.

I notice that when I have my wheel at full lock in either direction, the power steering sounds like it's struggling.

Any solution to this? Maybe by adding more fluid or something?

Is it not "common" that you NEVER hold ANY vehicle at full lock for any amount of time except for the second before you unwind...this has been driving 101 for many, many years.

The pump is not a happy camper at full lock....can't you hear it groan and whine?
