G-Tech numbers/opinions
Yaroslav started a thread asking about 0-60 times. In that thread someone asked about the G-Tech. I too am curious about others' experience with this device.
I have the Pro model and it's fun to have in the car.
My fastest 0-60 is 5.5 seconds with Xede sub-zero 93 octane, which I am writing up a review on this weekend sometime. The horsepower measurement seems to coincide with the numbers to be expected as stated on the Vishnu website. Although the 0-60 time and 1/4 are lower, more on that in the review. (God I hate the smell of clutch
)
IMO the timing functions seem accurate but I have not seperately timed anything, so of course it's just by feel that I make this judgement.
The cornering lights were set up using the average skidpad numbers from several magazine articles. IMO the lights are not accurate. The car seems to have alot of grip left when the cornering lights indicate I should be 4-wheeling.
Overall I would judge it to be a fun toy, useful more for comparisons than hard data.

Somebody posted a thread here with a G-tech for $50 on ebay, so I bought one. I only tried it a couple of times in the horsepower mode. I set it for 3,500 lbs, including my substantial personal weight, and it said I had 362 hp on a stock EVO. Maybe I just never figured out how to use it right but I didn't think much of it.
My G-Tech Comp Pro has been pretty good, but I also noticed that my 0-60 times were inconsistant. That means either my car is putting down wheelspin at 60 (unlikely), or the unit is off some.
I plan to re-plot my maps with the speed values calculated by RPM vs. gear ratio for MPH and see what that turns up. I do think that it's useful, though. Even with the current readings, I can see real changes in the numbers for my mods - everything from stock to turbo-back + other power mods.
As for the cornering stuff - don't know. I never checked the values I recieved against a mag. Bit I did read a huge difference in doing constant speed circles (one the same pad) without tire squeal between my stock suspension and my JIC coilovers.
I completely agree with your conclusion - it's good for comparing changes to your set-up. I think it can also be used to compare cars pretty well, but they would need to use same tests in the same conditions.

then again .. nobody can launch as consistent as me

[launch]
step on brakes
step on accelerator
wait for 3000rpms
let go brakes
press + button when shift lite comes on
[/launch]
Tried using the MPH to tune the cams .. just too much hassle ..
Tried your idea of disconnecting the grounding wires .. doesn't work ..
Then again .. try staying at a place that's perpetually 90% humidity, 90 degrees day or nite
Just for fun I checked an old G-tech, I think the "pro" model, one of thier first, at the drag strip. It was "overly optimistic". It was trapping me at 5-8 mph faster!
Other than testing it on perfectly a perfectly flat road, use it to benchmark your modifications.
It isn't that accurate, but it should be constistant.
