oil Temp Senso Bad??? Replacement???

A few days ago i noticed the factory oil temp gauge wasn't reading anything on my evo 8. I have been running with the car without the under tray for the past few weeks and I think that the cable/sensor has been fouled. The part i think I need is a new sensor cable. The cable has a plastic clip located about 8" from the plug, and I think a new one of these would fix my problem?? Can anyone confirm this or help me out with fixing it? Also FYI I looked on mitsuparts.net and had no luck locating the cable there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question

I think that temp sensor only comes w/the accessory "sports meter kit". I've never seen a part number for just the drain plug temp sensor. Does anyone know of an OEM part number for it?

Mine has the optional oil temperature gauge. It is kind of touchy. I also had the problem of it not reading. Once I did an oil change it somehow seems to have fixed itself. I did not bother to check the cable afterwards
