E85 Rocketbrand race blend E85 vs E85 on Pump Station. Post your HP#s & 1/4 mil times.

I called Rocektbrand and they said that the E85 on pump station is not really 85% of Ethanol.

Calling E85 guys to chime in...

He's right. Not all gas stations are purely 85% ethanol. For example, Chevron down one street may be 79% while Shell next door is 82%. Now, I don't know what's the minimum limit for Ethanol in TX but this is what I have noticed in southern CA.

It means my tune will be whacked cause of not consistent ethanol/octane content right?

Well it pretty known that E85 is from E70-E85 depending on time of year. What I see is some stations move through it so slow that they might have winter blend in summer or the other way around. You just have to know your area it seems up here in the nw all the stations are E85 and the tunes say right on.

This makes me a little nervous as my car will be getting tuned on whatever they have down in OH for E85 then running on whatever we have up here in KS.

I'm sure its unwarranted and its something all good tuners take into account but I cant help be over think everything about my build

$2.54 / gal on station vs. $7.75/gal on Rocketbrand

Like Luke said, our stations in the NW seem to be E85 or more. There is one that I strongly suspect of selling at least E90 if not closer to E98. All for 2.19 a gallon in PDX. The station I normally get fuel from in Chehalis is definitely E85 and is 2.33/gallon.

I wouldnt suspect your tune will be to much out of whack. I would ask your tuner what he thinks though

why is e85 not regulated as closely as 87/89/91/92/93 octanes? Also why do they not publish the current mixtures. Maybe because the cars running it from factory have the ability to fun whatever mixture might be in the tank withe their mixture sensors.

I also noticed the same issue here in Tucson. Not long ago while I was pumping "E-85" I noticed that the pump had a sticker that says: it contains a minimum of 70% methanol. I them later on read on the internet that through out the year most gas stations chnage their blend. Here is a link that you can use for referenece purposes:

wow, was completely unaware of this. i thought it was more closely monitored, much like pump. i had it in philly, but in DC its harder to find. would make me nervous with a current a tune. I will need to look into this a little more. like to see some numbers and info as well.

E-85 is around 106 octane
E-98 is around 120 I believe.
