Insurance question.

Since I can't say why I need insurance advice without this being moved to a dead thread.... lets see how I can phrase this....

If something were to "happen" to your car such that you needed insurance company support, how would you go about convincing them to let you buy aftermarket parts for replacements of busted up stock parts?

You would need a shop thats willing to evaluate the broken parts then file it with your insurance claim. This way, you can get aftermarket parts. Usually after the evaluation, the insurance company should just cut you a check for the repair estimate.

Dude. Grow up a little.

The only threads that are to end up in the 'wreck thread' are the ones that exist only to announce to the world that someone wrecked an Evo.

And to answer your actual question... It's not about convincing your insurance company to buy you after market parts. Once a shop has given an estimate for repairs and once the insurance company agrees to pay for the repair, you instruct the repair place on what parts to use to repair your car.

But remember, insurance is to pay for repairs that bring the car back to it's pre-accident condition. If they catch wind that you are buying aftermarket performance parts to replace broken parts, they could technically put you up on insurance fraud charges.

i don't believe that, but if its true you could buy aftermarket parts and instruct the auto shop to install the them, then sell the stock parts to break even.

I have a list of ten shops approved by my insurance, I will go around to each of them Wednesday and see if any of them are "friendly" with my ideas.

no they cannot bring you up on fraud charges. when they assess your vehicle, they cut you a check based on that, regardless of what the shops' quote is for. they can supplement additional damages to your insurance. but once they cut you your initial check for the repairs, you can purchase whatever hood you like. that is NOT fraud.

What Chimp said was true, most shops contracted with the insurance company won't risk that just for you, coz they get paid directly thru and by the insurance company. And for shops that are not contracted with the insur. company, most still won't do that for you. It's not that they don't want to or anything, it's just that in order for them to get paid by the insurance company, they will have to get their repair parts P.O. approved by the insurance company. Now I don't think many shops are willing to fake some P.O. (which is a major felony for insurance fraud) just for you to get some performance parts. So...you see my point there? But then I could be wrong....so...

Insurance companies are not going to call a FRAUD on your claim if you decided to put aftermarket. The insurance company will not be comming over to look at your car after the repair is done. They have so many claims they just want their customers to be happy and keep quite. I have been a mechanic and body guy for at least 12 years on and off, restore salvage title cars for insurance companies, restore salvage cars back to the public or dealers. I have been in the business for a long time owning my own shop and working for others. It really depends on which type of insurance you have and every customers car problems with the insurance company are never the same but we have made alot of satified customers and satisfied insurance companies through the years.
