I've been running the AMSOIL 0W-30 Signature Series with the AMSOIL oil filter in my Evo 9 since it had 8000 miles on it. I've been changing it every 3000 miles on the dot. This past oil change I had to use a different oil filter other than the AMSOIL filter. I'm at the 3000 mile limit but I need to go another 400 miles before I change it. Am I ok to do so? My modifications are listed below.

Amsoil is pretty stout. I wouldnt worry about going slightly over 3000. The manual suggests 5000 for any synthetic oil that meets standards. You are more than in the clear.

Couple miles over won't hurt, I use Amsoil 100% synthetic High Performance SAE5-w30 along with a Wix filter. My brother and I have used these religiously on our turbo cars with good results. I still change the oil every 3000 miles. I have heard royal purple is very good too.

 

you guys should have an oil analysis done for ~$30 with blackstone and actually get some facts vs the 3000 mile oil change attachment you have.

If you're running synthetic and have an analysis done you'll find out that unless you're road racing (real road racing- on a track) you have plenty of oil life to go at least 5000 miles and probably in excess of 6000 in between changes. I know at 5000 mile changes I have plenty of life left with mobil 1.

I have customers running 5W30 and 10W30 even 0W30 at 6 thousand mile intervals,, in my own personal car i run at 12K but thats just me and how confident i am in the product.

run oil analysis and like Steve said you will come to realize there is much of the oil life still left in it even when draining at 5K this would normally happen on the ASL 5w30 or SSO 0W30

we sponsor an evo IX here on the forums that runs time attack events, putting alot of stress on parts and much het on the oil, lab results when cam back they cam back and the oil almost looked untouched, zinc and phos was still in the 1200's, all the wear metal additives were pretty much the same as when we test these oil fresh out of the bottle,, keep in mind he is using Racing Dominator 10W30

 

3000 miles is too often to change the oil. the owner's manual only calls for it to be changed every 5000.

i change mine every 3000 miles and its because everytime i get in the car i rack through a couple gears at wot. there is nothing wrong with changing it at 2000 miles or 5000 miles its really up to you. the car manual states to change it at 5000 if the car isnt driven severly

 

Thats what you do in your car, ODUB has 159K miles on his car so Im sure he has an idea what hes talking about. These could be highway miles or city miles, you have to take in consideration weather also. Not everyone needs to change it at 3k......

 

I change mine every 3000 because of at two autoX's a month and throw in a lap day here or there. My wife's outlander get the 5000 mile treatment. Nice thing is they have the same oil filter..

 

you don't know how he drives his car either, but I do know that changing your oil after 2000 miles is a waste unless all 2000 miles were at WOT.

severely does not mean going WOT everytime you get in the car. that's nothing. severe driving is being on a track and running WOT for 10-30 minutes at a time for the entire 10-30 minutes in 100 degree weather repeatedly. that's severe.

you're talking to the wrong guy about beating on a car. none of my 159,000 miles have been easy miles. I too go WOT and run the car in triple digits everytime I get in it. Just being honest. I also autocross and road race it every chance I get. I also launch it for absolutely no reason other than the joy of launching. I've done all my maintenance according the owner's manual and my car still runs perfectly.

Yea, the synthetic oil they have out now is pretty great! 5k mile oil changes are more than frequent enough.
