Ummm CarPhoto, the reason WRC cars kick out the rear end on hairpins is because the drivers pull their handbrake (the big lever you see on TV - almost all of the cars paddle-shift their trannies now...), and this disengages the center diff, transferring the power to the rear. Once the car is around the apex, the diff engages and resends power to the fronts as well. It might be a little over your head, but it's ok. In ANY street driving, the Evo is a lot more like to understeer than oversteer. And yes I do know how to drive - ask Rich on SoCalEvo if I can drift an Evo. BTW, with the Evo, those ***-hanging-out slides are ****. If you really can drive the Evo, you'll get a nice, controlled slide on all four wheels. Now, STFU and let the guy buy his Evo.

BTW, my buddy at work bought an RX-8 (which looks awesome in dark gray) and ran it at the track in the mid-14s. Not bad considering.

Well original arguement was that US evo's can't drift.... but from what you said you think ANYTHING can be drifted. And what you said you could do, I could do too. And I guess I'm just an oddball, or picky, but I just don't see it as true drifting. So lets just leave it at that.

Too bad I don't drive a RWD nor EVO. So I'm really in no position to argue, but this is why I'm so curious. I'm leaning more towards the STI because it has dccd and even though I know handling sucks stock, I can easily fix that with suspension setup. As I said i'm not trying to be a dick, but if an EVO can do true drifting, I would choose an evo over sti in a heartbeat. But as of now I haven't seen any concrete proof.

Enough arguing.... i'm off to work =P

I am saying you can drift in a US SPEC EVO. Whats the big deal.

For the RX-8 topic AWD was my selling point.

Kid, I ain't flaming you. I'm trying to answer the guys question. If you want to come into this thread and be an ***, be prepared to have other people give you a hard time.

The video proved nothing. It isn't a US spec car. Besides, watch the video all the way to the end and see what happens to drifters on the racetrack. Lot of Porsche & Lotus owners really happy with that driver.

You posting your 1/4 miles times to prove what a good driver you are? As someone else said: Dragracing is for fast cars. Autocross (and of couse I'll add roadracing and rally driving, too) is for fast drivers. I don't think because your car can accelate quickly in a straight line that you are a good driver.

And judging by some of your other comments, I don't think you know much about anything else. "AWD lets you shift in the turns"???

Please don't act like an expert. We're all here to share our thought, opinions and experiences, but no one needs the attitude.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks, Chris. Nothing like a little Photochop to kick off the site, right? I've been so into m/c's the past few years the site pretty much revolves around them. That's all set to change though. I'll be putting up some car (and of course Evo) stuff very soon.

Later,
Joe

Both JDM and USDM stock Evos can drift.

The JDM Evo has a 50/50 torque split all the time. The different AYC settings simply determine how long the differential will stay locked.

Some people like AYC, others don't. I belong in the former category because I'm not a driving god.

In WRC, they don't use the AYC or ACD.

There is a video of a JDM Evo 8 vs a JDM Evo 7 battling it out in Tsukuba circuit. The 8 had Super AYC and ACD while the 7 had only ACD and had a more powerful engine. The 8 gave the 7 a 10 second head start and still managed to beat it by the end of the 3rd lap. What makes it relevant is that in this little friendly contest there was a JDM 8 without AYC and it had its *** handed to it by the 7. All cars were driven by Japanese professional drivers.

I didn't even see the bling!! I think they are an eyesore and a waste of time...better handling...please, maybe handling fat chics getting in and out, but I doubt that too! Atleast we have four REAL doors, not two full and two halfs...Once I saw porkchops (aka Hugh Jackman) drive one in X-2, I knew it was a whacka$$ car..

lol lots of ricers here...

if you want to drift go watch your silly cartoons and go buy an old rustbucket S14.

If you want to drive fast keep your foot on the gas through the corner.

sorry I havent replied to the my original topic I made. Anyways, I already HAVE a RX-8, and WAS thinking of selling/trading it for an Evo8 or Z. However since I will be driving my car daily, I am not so confident in a Turbocharged vehicle for daily driving. I know a lot of knowledgeable people in the industry and they always say FI is fun and all, but reliability can bite you in the ***, especially with a modified FI setup (which I would do if I got a FI car). I HAVE test driven the EVO8 and have felt its head slamming power and handling. Its an incredible car, however I am into styling also and the RX8 feels pretty powerful stock. I am not an expert on "feeling" power coming from a slow celica. But I do know that when it comes to speed, horsepower matters more than torque as well as gear ratios. I did beat a modified WRX on the street giving him a head start, even though I havent been driving the RX8 and manual transmission for long. All cars have strengths and weaknesses, and by no means and I putting down the EVO8. Incredible car, but I still am happy with my RX8 which I will retain for a while because I just got contracted to design my own bodykit for it. The Evo I still always check out when I see them on the road, but purchasing will have to be either a salvage titled one, or further down the road when I can afford one. Enjoy the Evo, and hope to see you on the street! Oh btw I raced an Evo8 on the freeway a few days ago, its pretty fast, but I kept up with it!
