Question E-manage and HKS cam install

Ok so I got a quote from a local installer for the install and tuning of a Greddy E-manage and the HKS 272 cams and I want to check with people who have had this done on how long it took and what the cost was. The dealer quoted me 3-5 hours for the emanage plus .5 hours for each additional sensor(approx 2 more hours) installed. They quoted me 4 hours to install the cams with no shims and 6 hours with the shims. All of this labor at a cost of $85/hr. They also quoted 2 - 3 hours of dyno time at a cost of $225/hr for the tuning. They are offering the emanage with all the optional sensors and harnesses for $550 and the cams for $510 which are good prices, but am I wrong in thinking the rest is just toooo expensive? FYI my mods right now are an AVCR, SAFCII, and 3" catback. I was wanting to switch to the emanage for a little more tuning capability while i was adding the cams, but after this quote I am a little hesitant.

Look for my write-up for the emanage in the install section and do it yourself! I'd be a little worried about a shop thinking that you might need shims for the cam swap. We don't use shims, we use hydraulic lifters.

Install it yourself.

Not joking, those two things even people with the most mediocre mechanic skills can do it. Just takes time and carefully reading the instructions.

I would never let anybody touch my car because trust me, those so called "mechanics" dont know wth they're doing, and it's not their car, so why would they care?

Not to mention they overcharge, E manage is a matter of wiring, and cams is just a matter of opening up your valve cover.

I'm no mechanic, but after a year of owning my car I learned to do everything myself if possible (not things like clutch install or motor rebuild). oh yea.. Had my car for almost 4 years now, and everything that I've installed was done perfectly, it was done right. All the past things I've let mechanics do...they screwed up.

See if anybody on this forum has done installs themselves, ask them for a step by step instruction.

The E-manage won't be a problem, you can do it yourself, just use the step by step manual. It is only wiring, no problem and then tuning. The cams, the usual installation on those is 4 hours, since you have to remove the timing belt and so on, so I would not recommend you to do it yourself, just find yourself a cheaper installation shop around there, unless you want to drive down to GA to install it in our shop . $85 an hour
I see now why they have to drive expensive but slow cars

Andy

PS. Contact me at 770-904-2644 if you need the instruction for the E-manage faxed to you.
