Buy cheap, buy twice (or more)
Buy cheap, buy twice (or more)
With the number of "Find me a cheap CF this" or "Cheap super-light, forged, multi-piece wheels" or "How do I buy a cheap set of drilled rotors", etc., I find myself asking, "WTFO!?!?"
First of all, if you are going to buy ANYTHING cheap (and by cheap, I generally mean quality, though cheap price and cheap quality usually go hand-in-hand) for the Evo, consider that the stock part is probably 100x better than whatever APC crap you plan on installing.
Second, if you want exotic materials (CF, magnesium wheels, etc.), they are "exotic" for a reason and it's not because they are 1/2 Polynesian and 1/2 Irish. These materials are expensive to produce, mold, finish, and maintain. That's why they aren't common place. If you cut corners and buy some fiberglass-pseudo-carbon thing, it will eventually crack, plus all the people who know the good stuff will point and laugh (at best).
Third and finally, the last thing I want to see is a bunch of half-assed, sort-of riced-out Evos driving around. For those of you with a Lancer ES, OZ, etc., it's not so bad - you bought an economy car, so putting economical parts on it isn't a shame. But for those of you who dropped the coin on an Evo, don't humiliate it by putting some crap glowing windshield sprayers or some wheels that dent if you sit down too hard. I've even heard of people thinking of pulling the Recaros out to put some Tenzo R garbage seats in "because they match better". WTF!!!!!!!!
Anyway, that's my rant for the day. Don't despair if you can't buy that HKS turbo kit or Cusco carbon clutch now - stay stock until you can afford the right parts!

Agreed. I would hate to see an Evo with nozzle lights and valve stem flashers.
If you're buying something that's supposed to look good or perform well, drop the coin! Won't you be happy if your bargain hood doesn't fit or your new intake filter falls apart and gets sucked into your motor?

great buy your over price ****.
everyone doesn't have **** loads of cash.
I am not saying you should rice out there evo, but everone can't buy those 3k rims. all in all if it fits without having to hack up your car give it a shot. I did the 2k coilover and $1000 cams in my 300zxtt and i will never do it again.

Good post, I also have to say if you don't have the cash at least learn what you are doing. I waited a few months and just bough a used set of wheels "stock ones" for the track, and the Vishnu stage 1+ today, but I did spend about 40-50 hours looking at all of the options. I wanted a 350whp track car so stage1+ and a stock set of wheels does this. Maybe 6 months I will do a stage 2 with the turbo but right now it should work good. Also the stock wheels are great and I have had the Techno wheels as well as BBS wheels that are 3-4k on different cars and most of them are heavy as hell.
i agree that going to auto zone or APC for all you customizing needs is a bad idea. It will ruin the image of this great car. On the other hand, the most expensive part isn't always the best.

Not bad...but Buschur parts are simple, most of the time use not-so fancy designs. (non-BB turbo's, cast manifolds, MBC + AFC) There parts are SOOO much less than the competiting products, it makes me wonder why you would buy HKS parts? Now of course, HKS does make some really nice products...but more of the time...nah.
