Just because an intercooler is black doesn't mean it's going to give your car the sleeper look. That's like saying any exterior mod that doesn't scream "look at me" is making it a sleeper. Some people just like different looking things.

if you can find a plater that does anodizing it will cost about $80-$100.

Can't go wrong with the anodized intercooler look.

Most people don't anodize because they use a cheap epoxy coated core - They can't fix the leaks so they coat the intercoolers in an epoxy paint to prevent leaks. If you acid dip the core before anodizing the core will leak if coated. A few vendors also paint the core silver.

The problem with painting the core is you ruin the heat transfer properties by coating it with a thick layer of paint. Anodizing is the best option.

Thanks!

Michael

Black IC looks awesome, silver attracts too much attention.

In smaller towns, especially around here no one knows what an evo is, so anything I can do to keep it looking unassuming, I am for it. I spent a GOOD amount of time on this, prepping the surface, and using the right coatings to not end up with a thick coating to hinder the FMIC performance... This has been painted for about 10 months, and it is a daily driver, track/autox car, and saw plenty of snowplow action this past winter...

I suppose you could, but the point of ceramic coating is to keep the heat in.

ah ok. I thought it kept it cooler. what about the vht black that they recommend for radiator restoration?

Radiator Restoration
Recommended product:
SP139: GM Satin Black

Most engine paints are too thick for radiator use because they can interfere with the heat transfer and block airflow between the cooling fins. This factory-finish aerosol withstands high heat and is just the right gloss and thickness to match most OEM finishes, and is ideal for radiator applications. It is 550ºF (287ºC) chemical resistant.

I must say, this car IS a total sleeper. being close up you see everything, but step back or see it passing by and you see nothing

There is a point to making your intercooler black and that is to make it less noticeable. Yes, you can still see it but it just makes it harder to see than a silver intercooler. I personally wouldn't get it done unless it was going to be done for a very cheap price.
