Definitely interesting. As you stated, I'm sure the lag/latency of the gauge will be less noticible under regular driving conditions, but I be it will still be there. Fast response/accuracy and price are the benifits a mechanical gauge as long as there are no leaks. Electronic gauges/sending units will inherently have latenc, even if it is not visible to the eye(which I think it shouldn't on an ideal gauge). Once you get to driving though I'm willing to bet you'll notice one of the fundamental problems with a mechanical gauge, flutter, esp if your car has a stiff suspension. I get a decent amount of flutter in mine especially on imperfect road surfaces, and I havent really found a way to isolate the guage from the shock or determine if I have a slight leak. Condensation can also be an issue if there is a big difference in the temp of the source air and the inside of the car. Happens to me in the winter/summer since I always blast the AC,

interesting info

clutch seems to be fixed. but dont hold me to it. lol

i took the car for a drive. with the manual and electronic gauge. just to test the clutch out and fill up on 100oct. no video yet because this was just a test drive but i noticed something i do not like. as i said the electronic gauge is def laggy. big difference. i also noticed something else. the car is set at 32ish psi right now. the car hits 25ish psi quickly then it slowly creeps up to the desired boost level ''32 ATM'' so this is def holding the car back some. so. here is what i am going to do. i am going to revamp the hole EBC and reset everything. im going to play with the other features and settings and will get it as best as i can. then ill make my video and then swap in the MBC. so stay tuned if anyone cares.HAHAH

holy crap. i put the MBC in the car. what a complete difference. the car blows the tires apart in 2nd gear. spools up much faster, much harder. and is very stable. i dont know if the EBC was setup perfectly but i could only hit 25psi in 1st and maybe 28/9 in 2nd. now im pegging 35/6 in all gears. even between shifts its back on boost faster. i will take a video when i can. but as of right now the EBC is not going back in the car. well its in the car i just disconnected the solenoid and used the boost lines from the solenoid to the MBC. so an easy swap is no problem

this is why i like my digital gauge. it uses solenoid also but doesnt bother with moving the needle, its pure LED. its fast reacting, almost too fast sometimes i have to do more then one WOT to see what boost im running(i dont have any road by me to stay in WOT for more then a second or two)

Another thing to consider would be the brand of the electronic boost gauge and who makes the sending unit.

I'm sure not all are made the same.

What's interesting to note is that although the sensor is applied the overboost pressure, the warning light doesn't come on immediately... it waits until the needle reaches the warning zone, rather than turning on right away. lazy circuitry if you ask me.

I used to have a prosport gauge awhile back and the response was nearly identical. when i posted my results on 3si, prosport actually made an account and tried to tell me that the effect was negligible... i'd never see the boost spikes even with a mechanical gauge

I have never had good luck with electronic boost gauges, they seem lazy to me. My simple autometer mechanical gauge puts shame to my greddy electronic one. This is just one gauge you need to have mechanical. On a side note I never trust a gauge, I trust map sensor voltage. The gauge is just a advanced notice if something is way wrong.

Agreed! Good info in this thread, thanks for the tests!

so, manual boost controller is 'better'? interesting, and opposite of what i've heard. maybe i'll stick with my manual then
