Storing the EVO..for a LONG time.
With the option of taking it to such cold climate's, what material are your pistons made of? 2618 will have a good amount of shrink/growth with those temps. Living in MN i know what its like to store a car in winter months and a climate controlled enviroment is STRONGLY encouraged. I say fork out the money for a nice climate controlled storage unit somewhere, dont let it sit dry on gas but dont stabil it either. Once you get home, drain the tank and put fresh in. If seals crack, hey i guess thats part of it and you replace them...
after a car sits for too long the springs in the head weaken....so after 2 years you may encounter valve float depending on the boost u are running to make 600whp. also like others have stated hoses and any rubber gaskets will more than likely dry out...not to mention the damage or wear on the fuel system from sitting so long. sell it or bring it with you.... or you may need a good bit of work to make your 8k mile car drivable again.
If you do your own wrenching, you could put the car at your parents and then tear it down to elevate the springs and seals issues. Have parts ready to put it back together when you get home and know it will be good to go.
Hey man,
I live in Alaska and stationed at ft Richardson (anchorage) but take it, store one with the military (ie not the Evo) take it to a climate control garage, set it to 60 don't want it to cold or to hot (have someone in the military outside of BN and have them switch it from heat to ac) and when you get back from afghan new tires and seals for sure. But if you drive it everyday while here untill deployed the only thing you have to worry about is boost creep (EBC will handle that) and overboosting due to the climate change and tune, other then that your Evo will be fine. No reason not to bring it, unless you really want it to go to waste or sale it......up to you though

I have stored my 69 Camaro for the past three years I've been living in this **** hole state called Utah. I put **** tires on it, took the battery out, as it will be ****in worthless after three years of not being used, covered all the seats in plastic visqueen, put a couple boxes of baking powder inside, drained the coolant and ran straight antifreeze, ran the tank to almost E, added fuel stabilizer, and finally covered the car after washing it. I also took all of the chrome pieces off the car and stored them in the car. Good luck on your tour of duty, make sure you wax the **** out of the car before you store it too. Just crack the driver's window an inch to help it breath a little bit. I think that's it... ?
One thing Id deff do is have my parents start the car and let it run up to operating temp for 20-30 mins about once a month. I kow you said you dont trust anyone with your car, but I dont think you should have issues if your parents just simply start the car, let it sit and idle, get warm, then close it down and repeat. Will keep everything lubricated and running smoothly.
The most important thing is a secure garage with no drafts, and pests and ideally shaded by trees in the Summer. I would use Stabil for two years. It stops working around 5 years. Keep the windows closed and remove the battery. I assume you don't want to use a battery tender. Over inflate the tires they wil be fine when you get back. Thats it really. I've stored cars for longer than 2 years doing much less and they ran fine when I got back.
hes right no 1 else to trust than ur folks, but not driving it only to start it up for a few

jk hopefully you get this figured out I would help you out if I had a extra garage at my place here in socal but I don't
