IAC testing question

04 evo... Pulled it out and left it connected... turned the car to the on position... it clicked and did nothing else. Does that mean its dead(ish) or am i missing something? What am supposed to be looking for? That little plunger type thing or is the whole piece with the spring supposed to move? Thanks for the help.

You need to test with a multi-meter.

Measure the resistance between terminal No. 2 and either terminal No. 1 or terminal No. 3.
Standard value: 28 − 33 ohms [at 20°C (68°F)]

Measure the resistance between terminal No. 5 and either terminal No. 4 or terminal No. 6.
Standard value: 28 − 33 ohms [at 20°C (68°F)]

Looking at the connector with the clip facing up the pins are:

1 2 3
4 5 6
______

Mine also made a bit of noise but didn't move. I replaced it with another used IAC and it didn't move either. I haven't tested one or the other with a multimeter though.

Is there a reason you're testing it? Are you having idle issues?

I had the same problem and I tried a new IAC because I thought that was the issue as well. It turned out to be my maf. One more thing you can look at. The way I found out was I did a boost leak test after the maf adapter and alot of air was leaking out of the cover on top of the maf. Epoxied the cover back in and cleared the issue right up.

If you are suffering stalling when pulling up at junctions, first thing to try is resetting the base idle.
You need access to Evoscan or a MUT tool to do this correctly. Basically park the stepper motor (ICV) (if the car stalls or rev drop very low it's a good indication this is the issue) Turn the biss screw out until idle is around the 850 rpm, then engauge the stepper motor again.
If you are using a MUT to you can do an ECU reset, if using Evoscan you will need to remove power from the ECU, or disconnect the battery.
Just installing another ICV without setting it correctly in most cases will not solve the issue.
