Replaced fuel pump twice, dealer still says it's bad?

Alright, I got back from Afghanistan to find my car not running. Myself and a few mechanic friends began to diagnose the car. The best we could figure out is that the car was getting spark, fuel, ect ect. But it seemed that it wasn't getting enough fuel pressure. So, we replaced the fuel pump. Still nothing. We tried a bunch of other stuff, MAP, MAF, CPS. Still no luck. We replaced the fuel pump one last time just on the outside chance that I managed to get a dead pump. Nothing.

I finally gave in and took the car to the dealer (a German Mitsu. dealer, as I'm stationed in Germany). I talked to them yesterday and they are asking me to order part # 1760A190 (gauge and fuel pump assembly) because the fuel pump is only sending 1 bar when it should be sending around 3. The exact same diagnosis we had, and the 3rd time the fuel pump will be replaced....And considering the original was a Walbro 255 (which I've never heard of going out)...It seems odd.... Is replacing the complete assembly going to make that much of a difference?

Also, where do you guys recommend I pick this part #1760A190 up at? The only place I can find online wants $475 for it. Which, I'm not about to pay unless I absolutely have to.

Ahh, I think that's about it.

As always, thanks!

I would have to say go with Walboro at this point. Only costing $100, being far superior than the stock unit and being very easy to install this would get my vote. Your time is worth something, and if you calculate the time you've spent going back and fourth with the dealer and getting no where that new pump could have already been paid for and put in.

It may actually be the fuel pump assy as the fuel filter is built into it. You could however purchase a used one for around $100, or buy a Buschur Double pumper for $500... which is what I would do before I bought a new fuel pump assy for $475... Have you checked the FPR or unplugged it from the manifold?

Nope, haven't checked it. But it's at the dealer now, so not too much I can do.

They said it's only sending 1bar. But i'm not sure where they checked the pressure at.

I had a Walboro in it originally, accidentally ordered an OEM pump and replaced it. Nothing, tried a new walboro in it as well (whats in it now) and still nothing.

double check the rubber grommit and plastic clip on the high side of the pump when you put it in the sending unit. if the rubber grommit is missing or torn or installed wrong, then it can cause the fuel pressure to blow by it, decreasing the pressure at the rail.

if the plastic clip is missing i think it can cause similiar problems. i've seen the rubber grommits torn before causing problems.

I had a similar issue when tuning my car. Put the rubber grommet on the pump nozzle all the way, then push it into the assembly.
