5 speed to 6 speed swap speedo doesn't work??????????

Hey guys i have a 03 evo 8 that i just did a 6 speed swap on. The car is together and running just fine but I can't figure out why the speedo doesn't work. Is there anything specific that needs to be done to make the speedo work? any help is much appriciated.

I believe there is a speed sensor on the tranny I can only assume the 5 and 6 speed sensors are different

Correct, the sensors are different and the plug into it is different. Remember that the wire harness connectors are different also. You need the wire harness that plugs the 6 spd speed sensor into the 03 engine harness just under the thermostat housing, the wire colors are the same so you should be able to cut and splice fairly easily if you can't find the right harness. Then you'll just need a pigtail from a 6 spd sensor harness.

The speed sensor in the tranny would be different in the 5spd and the 6spd. You'd have to change the plug if that is possible.

why not? its a perfectly fine transmission. if he doesnt destroy his car like most people treat their cars on this site then it should be good.

Ya like he said, it was wired color to color and it still doesn't work the sensor must be bad.

Thanx for all the imput and the reason i switched was because my 5 speed was grinding in 5th and 3rd and when i pushed it hard it wouldn't shift into 2nd or 3rd. The 6 speeds are cheaper and it shifts a lot smoother than the 5 speed i had. I think as long as i get solid mounts and decent suspension wheel hop should be eliminated and the trans should hold up just fine. Iv already rapped it out a couple of times and it shifts sooooo smooth i love it. Im actually glad i did the swap to a 6 speed. Now i just need better mounts so the motor won't move as much.

And also another question what mounts do i need to buy for the motor? since the trans is different im gonna have to get half evo 8 and half evo 9 mounts aren't I?

motor mounts are the same since its the same chassis and same motor, ive always seen motor mounts advertised as for both the 8 and 9 but nothing 6 speed specific
