Need some help from you Rally / High Dust guys
Reviving my WAY OLD thread, today was the worst dust storm we have seen here in a while. I've decided that I will now go with the Perrin, I have been trying a few different setups and think that the Perrin is my best option. I will just have to clean it quite frequently.
Anyone running a wet filter? Have any tips or tricks when it comes to cleaning? Do you really have to buy the " Special cleaner " or is there something else out there that works just as well?
Thanks guys

I ran out of cleaner for my K&N's and Perrin before. You can use any cleaner you want, as long as it's safe for plastics/foams/rubber, etc.... I use a mild degreaser, spray the hell out of it, let it sit a few, then rinse thoroughly. Just have to be careful, as some cleaners can break down the foam, or the glue that holds the seams of the foam together. If you're in doubt about the cleaner, probably better to just buy the kit.
As for the filter itself, in high dust environments, you really should get a sock, or shield, to fit over the oiled filter. It'll stop a large amount of dust from getting to the oiled filter, which should extend the times between cleaning and re-oiling. Just take the sock off and shake it out.
I know it's for K&N, but the principle is the same. http://www.knfilters.com/search/wrap.aspx Something like this, or the previous post about covers for the filter should help out...
