I think my Dealer Made a Huge Mistake

So I have changed to oil twice in my car and I am at 6,700 Miles and I noticed that the little sticker that the dealership put up in the top left corner of the windshield says "Castrol" and has the little "GTX" box checked, not the "Syntec" box. Now, I might be wrong but isn't Castrol GTX not synthetic? I checked my receipt for that oil Change and it says that I requested a full Synthetic and that they used Mobil 1. Three questions:

One: Is Castrol GTX fully synthetic?

Two: if its not, what kind of damage am I looking at for not using fully synthetic oil?

Three: what Kind of recourse do I have if they messed this up which I cant imagine that they could screw something so silmple like this up so badly?

Thanks

if its a dealer they should know better and yes castrol do carry full syn and i dont think there would be a big problem with running regular oils, its just that a turbo runs hotter then usually and it would be better for ur motor and if i were u i would take it back and have then change it , becuase the oil may not protect ur motors as well as synthetic, and will **** up alot of internal parts and over heat

My dealer uses those GTX stickers too, just don't think they have any Mobile 1 reminder stickers, I watch them use the Mobile 1 myself every time, I think you're fine.

I hope your right DynoKing, I hope I am just a little crazy and they didn't make a mistake. $30,000 dollar car makes me a little nervous, plus I just installed my S-AFCII today and have been drinving harder than normal

No, Castrol GTX is not fully synthetic. Even Castrol Syntec isn't fully synthetic.

I am pretty sure that's what it is, I have had 2 different stickers so far. I do watch them put the oil in so I know it's synth.

I thought that synthetic oils are able to withstand High temperatures before the viscosity breaks down, the kind of temperatures that an oil would be exposed to in the turbo casing? I am sure there is a diiference or else they would not have required fully synthetic.

oil

Castrol synthetic is a group 3 oil, mobil synthetic is a group 4, and oils like Motul are group 5.

Mobil actually file a suit against Castrol 5-10 years back over the classification of group 3 oils as being considered full synthetic. But Mobil lost the case.

BTW, I am new to the board and a proud owner of an EVO.

Yeah, this was Boulder Mitsubishi. I just noticed today and I was like "hummmm, I wonder..." Its good to hear from you, I installed the S-AFCII today, it took a few hours, but I did a really bang up job.

you'll have to check it out sometime.

I am not too worried, after all it is just a sticker and any mechanic with half a brain wouldn't put the wrong oil in.
