No Reverse

I just finished rebuilding my engine and got everything buttoned up and found out I can not get into reverse. With the cables disconnected i can get it into all 6 positions (1-5 +R) but not while driving. It seems like an adjustment issue but I'm not sure which cable to start with. Another problem i am having is my alternator is not charging by battery since i relocated it to the trunk. I ran 1/0 ga up to the junction block and grounded to the trunk where the donut was. Does this sound like a grounding issue or should there be a dedicated wire from the alt to battery?

I had an issue with 3rd before and it turned out to be the shifter bracket. You can slightly move them left to right, and can cause issues with finding gears. In my case, it was bent in shipping (had just got built by Shep). I was able to bend it back to work and Shep sent me a new one. I was surprised at how off the shifter was by such a slight bend. It was like 1st gear was where 3rd should have been.

every gear seems to be where it should be as far as shifter position inside of the car. its just that it wont go far enough over to the right to get into reverse. while driving 1-5 works perfectly just no reverse.

Do a search for won't go into gear. I have seen everything from what I experienced to a guy who got a penny stuck in the base which blocked reverse.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? I did a search and found loose end nut but the trans hasn't been touched. Everything worked before i pulled the motor and now just no reverse. I'm going to try adjusting cables today but any help would be great..Also any help for the battery? I'm running more redundant grounds today too but is the dedicated power wire from alt to battery necessary?
