No muffler: Anyone?

On the street I run a 3" DP and TP with the stock catback exhaust. This fits nicely with the JDM rear and is very quiet.

However, I need a free flowing JDM friendly exhaust for track days. I'm considering purchasing the cheapest exhaust I can find then hacking off the muffler and running without one. Not only would it be very light but I wouldn't have to put much effort into ensuring the thing won't melt my bumper.

Anyone running this way now or run that way in the past? How much louder was it than with the fart can on there?

I run a 3" DP and TP with the stock catback exhaust as well and was told by many people that buying a full exhaust won't allow for that much gain. You will only allow for a louder (more attention) sound and more potential to melt your bumper. Never seen anyone running with the muffler cut off though.

+1 on the cut-out. There's a good bit of a difference in price between an electrical and a manual, though.

It makes a deep "boomy"noise fairly loud, but I've heard Honda's much much louder.I've driven it on the street a fair bit(with no muffler)and no issues,so I guess its not too loud.

i've been tempted with doing a muffler delete...doubt the cops would like that though b/c then my exhaust would literally be just 3" tubing with a 02 dump

If your going to hack the muffler off anyways, what is the point of getting one "JDM friendly". The exhaust is going to be to short to come near the bumper and will probably melt it.

This is what we run on our car... screw having tubing go all the way back, this is even lighter. It is loud, but not crazy.

No no no..... I plan to extend the exhaust out the rear kind of like the BR muffler delete does I just don't want a big old ricey foldgers coffee can back there flopping around and melting stuff.

I've had mechanical and electrical cut outs before. Both didn't really work all that well.

I just picked up an ebay TBE for $81 shipped!!! So I'm gonna hack off the muffler and use the down pipe bends and length to extend the exhaust.

I was just curious if anyone had a muffler less exhaust comparison. I really doubt that a straight through muffler does much good.

Some crap RNR exhaust or something I got for $75, cut the muffler off and had AMS extend it.

Sort of like that but with the exit going straight out the rear instead of angled.

How loud is that?

Why risk melting the bumper? Use a turn-down if it is truly ONLY for track days. Like the one posted by rawkus.

What about a resonator?

Wouldn't that keep it quieted down without the loss of power?
